Synopsis: Ahhh... the good old days of the Atari. Actually, I'm far too young to think back to the good old days of the Atari. I was born in 1984. I'm really a SNES person, but I enjoyed Genesis as well as Original, Terrible Crap Nintendo Entertainment System as well. But that's not the point. The point is that it's easy to pirate an Atari Emulator. One of the exciting games for Atari is Krull: The Game Based On The Rather Boring Movie Of The Same Title. I reviewed the movie Krull on this site, and researching this led to me remembering the old game.

Brief summary of the movie:
The Beast has kidnapped Lissa, Colwyn's bride. He has to wander around aimlessly and collect things in order to eventually fight The Beast and rescue Lissa.

FIRST STAGE: At the beginning of the game, you fight wave after wave of Slayers, until they kidnap Lissa. There is no way to avoid this, because this is what happened in the movie. They shoot lasers at you, and it's pretty well done, and surprisingly hard. However, after this, you go to a crappy (maybe it was good for the time, I really don't remember) spider web to be killed by the spider over and over.

SECOND STAGE: The second level is a spider web. This sort of follows the plot A LITTLE BIT, because A DIFFERENT CHARACTER THAN THE ONE WHO FOUGHT THE SLAYERS spent some time in a giant spider web. He didn't die as much, though. There's no way to avoid being killed in the spider web, though sometimes you randomly leave to collect extra lives and glaives. You can only collect one life/glaive per bonus life/glaive-collecting-round, and it takes away one every round, so there is no point to this whatsoever. Though, I found that by getting to the center of the web, you can make the spider that kills you disappear temporarily, before it reappears and kills you. After a while, I managed to figure out the weird arbitrary rules to this game - though I still spent half my time trapped at the top or bottom of the screen, waiting for the timer to run out so I could get killed by the spider again and start over - and I got to the boss level.

THIRD STAGE: It looks like you have to throw the glaive at the wall that is trapping Lissa, and if you hit The Beast you lose a glaive. If you free her, she gives you the power to kill The Beast. This part is pretty competently done, but hard as fuck. I'm annoyed because I still haven't figured out how I got to it in the first place.

The second stage basically makes the whole damn game unplayable, since it makes no sense. It's too bad, because the first and third stages are relatively creative and hard. I'm not really surprised, because it's an Atari game based on a boring rip-off of Conan the Barbarian.
