Title: Kid Chameleon
Rom Player: Genecyst
Reviewer: Dr. Boogie

Synopsis: Now this is what I call a game! For some reason, Sega decided that Sonic the Hedgehog should be their mascot instead of the Kid. Oh well. The latest thing in the neighborhood arcade is the new virtual reality game “Wild Side.” The player actually steps inside this massive machine, the door shuts, and the game begins. The problem is that suddenly when a kid gets a game over, they don’t come out. You play “someone too tough to beat. Someone known as… Kid Chameleon.” Other than looking like a child version of the Fonze, he has the ability to transform into different characters by obtaining helmets from blocks with the letter “P” on them. There are nine helmets, each with its own set of powers and weaknesses. For instance, the Iron Knight can climb walls and his armor gives him the most hit points, but it also makes him so heavy that he breaks through floors when he jumps on them. Even more amusing is the close-to-copyright-infringement character, Maniaxe. He looks an awful lot like Jason of Friday the 13th fame, and maintains this image by throwing axes at people. My favorite would probably have to be the Juggernaut, who is basically a big tank that fires skulls. What’s more is that the game is designed so that different characters can get to different exit points to each level “the Iron Knight can climb up a wall to get to one, the Juggernaut can somehow balance itself on the front of its tank body to squeeze into small gaps, etc. In addition to all that, you collect gems that, depending on the character, can be used to rain death on your enemies, slow down everything around you, or even give you another life. The sound effects are great, with hilarious screaming, grunting, and even the occasional yelling of the phrases “DIE!” and “bummer!” The music is equally good, as each particular background has its own, and there are plenty of backgrounds. This is, quite possibly, the best game for the Genesis, so don’t pass this one up.

Best Cheats: Skip right to the final boss - To get straight to the last boss, go to Blue Lake Woods 2 (the second level) and make your way through the level. Don't touch the flag near the end. Get up on the very last prize block and press Down + Right while holding down the Jump and Special Weapons buttons. (Sure, this may be quick, but this game is huge.)
