Title: Darius 2/Segaia
Author:Taito
Rom Player: M.A.M.E.
Reviewer: Shane Skekel

Synopsis: If there is one game that you shouldn't play on an emulator then this is it. After the events of the first Darius, the forces of Belser have invaded our solar system and are trying to take it over. However, Proco and Tiat decide to stop Belser's empire from expanding into other systems, and that pretty much sums up the story. If you're wondering why you shouldn't play this on an emulator; because it's hard to see on M.A.M.E. or Raine.

Game Play: This game has plenty of routes making it very non-linear for an arcade game. If the stage on the sun was easy then the later stages are much harder as you progress. Each time you get to the end of a stage, you fight one of the enemy battleships such as Killer Higia (Coelacanth), Red Mist (Octopus), Full Metal Shell (Sea Turtle), Hyper Great Thing (Sperm Whale), Death Wings (Manta), and many others. There's also the co-op mode in the tradition of Salamander, which helps thin out the waves of enemies.

Graphics: The best graphics of any shooter at that time, but they lack the special effects of R-Type 2 and Gradius 3.

Music & Sound: The music is good, as with the voice acting. The sounds aren't half bad for a game made at that time.

Originality: It's the same as the first game in certain ways, but it doesn't depreciate the longevity one bit.

In the end, every arcade operator should have one of these cabinets instead of those recycled King of Fighters games (Time Killers blows them out of the water). Besides, SNK had their chance in the '80s and early '90s, but they oversaturated their system with crap. This is one game that will always kick ass, even if Taito no longer sends their games to the U.S. via Sony Computer Entertainment.
