|Title: Exo Squad
Rom Player: Gens
Synopsis: Well, this game is kind of unique but still has a lot of traditional features. There's 3 different kinds of gameplay to Exo Squad, so I'll write a bit about each of ‘em. I used to know more about the story, but it's been a while since I've played more than duel, so I can't remember much.
1st- The flying mech
I don't like this part much. It's boring and isn't exactly new and exciting. You basically just move this flying mech around the screen and dodge oncoming objects while blasting away your enemies with your 2 guns. One's a typical fast shooting gun and the other's just a cannon you need to charge for a little bit before you can shoot, which is pretty useful in boss fights. Why exactly they didn't allow you to shoot the objects and not just the enemies, I'll never know. It's easy at first, but it eventually gets annoying and not worth playing through when you can just enjoy duel (something I'll get into later). These levels seem to pop up a lot though, so if you don't have the patience to play through the entire game because of these, there are some simple level passwords I'll post at the end. Before you do that though, give it a chance. It can be really fun if you're in the mood.
2nd- The walking mech
Ok, this part is a little more fun but is very, very easy. You walk across the screen and shoot obstacles and enemies away. You can crouch, shield, shoot, jump, and probably do a couple more things but I don't feel like going back to level 2 to find them. It's a very simple concept and it's easy to do. Just walk and shoot. Pressing left makes you crouch, so there's no going back, which can be a bitch if you're trying to pick something up and you're a tad bit too far. I just finished a level of this and walked through half of it holding shoot. It's just that easy. I'm sure it eventually gets harder but I haven't played through the whole thing before. Some enemies require you to hold your shoot button (you need to do this in all 3 parts of the game, so get used to it) to make a stronger blast to finish ‘em off. I can't really say much else about this part because there isn't much to tell.
You can play this in arcade mode as part of the story, or against a friend or the computer (3 difficulty settings). It's very fun to play with friends but gets tiresome, as all fighting games do. This part of the game is like most fighting games, except you're not pulling off fast, complex button combos, you've got a small amount of time to react to your enemy's attack. You and your enemy are in mech suits, so you're pretty slow reacting and can fly. You can also shoot. The moves take a few rounds to learn, but they're simple and aren't easy to forget. All the characters have the same attacks, so it doesn't really matter much which one you have, but there is a speed difference. Overall, this is the best part of the game. Play it and you'll see why.
As a whole, this game is one of the best I've played. The 3 different parts of the game are cool and it's nice to have a little change.

Most of that goes to the duel part, but the rest is definitely worth playing too.
Not the best Sega’s ever had, but they're not bad and they're always nice looking. The story parts suck though.
Nothing special. It never got annoying (maybe cause my volume was never very loud when playing this) and the sounds are kinda cool.
Normally it wouldn't get such a high grade, but it's got 3 different types of gameplay in 1 game, so that's worth something. Also, the fighting part of the game is somewhat different than the usual stuff like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
Overall rating: 8
One of my favorites, for sure, but it would be somewhere in the middle of my favorite classic games.
