Has anyone here seen these guys? They're coming to my town soon, and I'm all giddy. Kindly give me your take if you've caught 'em live.

i think both toronto shows may be sold out(?).
tickets online were being sold through: http://mtseccom3.mtsecurecommerce.com/ShowListSB.asp?ATYpe=P&TheID=283&EP=2

but they haven't had tickets for either toronto date or the hamilton date in quite a while.

i am going to gybe shows in:
dc, baltimore, carrboro, asheville, athens, atlanta, toronto (both nights) and hamilton.

just saw t hem last night.
they played for 2+ hours. was a bit longer than i thought it was going to be (after hearing philly was only 1.5 hours)
stood for 5 hours to get the spot that i got.
it was still enjoyable despite the pain and the heat.

What type of music do they play?
I have never heard of them before.

Hard call. It's ambient, with lots of crescendo's. They have a series of instruments, one introduces a 'theme' (not really a melody) and it gradually builds up by the orchestration, into a crashing wave. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Very good band, in my oppinion.

godspeed! you black emperor? yah...i heard of 'em. they're a bunch of evil bastards. not ONCE when i have been with-in earshot of them have they failed to set my hair aflame.

and i am in no way joking. my hair has been set on fire everytime i'm heard their cd.

yet i will still probably go to their concert. anyone care to see a small girl go up in flames?

The show was awesome. I didn't stay for the whole thing, because I was tired and having trouble staying awake. GYBE's music is wonderul, but it has a certain.... lulling effect. At the time I went home, they had been playing for an hour and a half. They also had a message they had printed on flyers which I will share with you when I get home tonight.

I just saw em last night. Excellent show indeed. Hung Over as the Oven in Maida is one of the few songs I actually find genuinely chilling.

One of the drummers actually broke their mysterious vow of silence and talked about the bombing that had just began.
