Okay, can someone lower themselves to my level and give me the backstory on Hellboy? I would wait until the movie but since movies often fuck up backstories to a horrific point, could someone just give me more info on this comic?

It has been a while, but i remember that Hellboy was originally a demon summoned from hell by an alchemist apparently working for the Third Reich. :0

He was, however, found by American G.I.s and raised as an apple-pie-eatin', democracy-lovin', flag-flaggin' American pumpkin-pie, and was so against his own demonic self that he tore his horns off- those are the two big circles on his forehead. ;>

It also has a lot of anime-type-philosophy101 explorations of heaven and hell and good and evil etc. :0

Then he joined some pseudo-X-files anti-supernatural nazi type people or something. ;o

He fights dracula in one story, and a monkey robot :D

That was a terrible re-telling. ;<

Protoclown or Rongi should answer this, but apparently everyone has gone on an unexplained hiatus. :<

I own some Hellboy comics that I got in bulk when I bought some guy's collection, but I haven't read any of them yet. So I know about as much as Jin. Nothing more.

During WWII, the Nazis had various research programs to develop new weapons for the war effort. One of these research groups delved into the supernatural. In the waning days of the war, this group attempted bring forth the ultimate weapon. On a remote island off the coast of Scotland, Nazi occultists and scientists worked to combine science and the supernatural to bring about this goal. Led by the monk Rasputin one night in 1944, they began a ceremony to bring about Ragnarok by opening the gates of Hell on Earth. Before the rites could be completed, a small band of Allied GIs, led by Professor Broom, interrupted the event. The gate was open long enough, though, to admit one thing from that Hell dimension: a baby demon. Professor Broom immediately took hold of the creature and named it Hellboy. Hellboy was raised by his surrogate father, Professor Broom, and went on to become a field agent for the Bureau of Paranormal Research & Defence.

It is revealed later in the series that Hellboy is half human, the child of a demon father and a human mother.

Didn't Hellboy kill Hitler, then they took Hitler's brain and put it into an ape?

I got a couple of HellBoy Comics, as well as his crossover with Savage Dragon.

Tom was right about that.

Also, the giant stone hand he has for a...well...hand, is the key to the apocalypse. BUT, nobody knows how to use it, so Hellboy uses it to beat the ever-living crap out of wahtever baddie he encounters.

Also, I heard that Lobster Johnson in the books is really cool. I ordered four TPB's which should arrive in a week or two, three or something. Joy.

Ditto :/. Sorry I really can't help you out since I've only read like one issue ( the first I think? I remember a nazi alchemist summoning a demon from hell and that's about it )

And I like it that I'm starting to be recognized as a comic geek around here :posh

No, I'm not. I heard they were making a movie, and I heard there were comics, so I did a google search and found some online comics, which I read, and I loved them.

And I ordered four TPB's which should be here in a week or so.
