View Full Version : I sure hope you Christians are right about Heaven...

A friend of mine died in a car crash over the weekend, and it's kinda tough dealing with it. I was never really that into religion, but like I said, I hope that those of you that are Christian are right about Heaven. He deserves it. :(

EDIT: He was only 18, and two other people (both younger) died in the same crash. The other people that were in the car are in intensive care.

Are you a Hickman character, or vice versa? :(

I'm his brother. I thought everyone knew that.

Are you going to at least get some of your friends stuff?

Immortal Goat
Mar 29th, 2004, 09:08 PM
We weren't close enough. We were friends, but only in a school setting. He had closer friends that he played football with and stuff. The sad thing is, the driver survived, and that means that he will probably be charged with vehicular manslaughter. I think the grief he's going to go through is bad enough without people blaming him for the deaths.

AChimp

If he was drunk then he deserves what he gets, and more. >:

And the people are kinda dumb for getting in with him, if he was. :(

Everyone was sober.

Then there's no way the charges will really stick. Shit happens. :S

Perndog
Mar 29th, 2004, 09:37 PM
They don't charge drivers, especially juveniles, for manslaughter unless someone comes up with a good reason why the driver was at fault. If no one was drunk, I doubt the driver will get the blame.

They were speeding. :( It was foggy. :(

Sorry about your friend, dude.

About the driver, its doubtful he will face criminal charges unless he did something outrageously wreckless.

A civil case, on the other hand, may be in his future.

Oh, and there is no Hell. So at least no one's suffering. :)

Hey Achimp, shut the fuck up! Someone actually died man.

About the Heaven thing; there isn't one. Or maybe there is. But God's dead either way, so I suppose it would be pretty anarachic up there. Some sweet orgies may be occuring though.

I lost someone in a car accident back in November...

http://www.nbc-2.com/news/stories/archive/2003/112603-student_killed.shtml

I was there too. I was in my best friend's TransAm, and these two girls were in a red honda next to us, one of which was my friend's girlfriend. On the way to a Starbucks we were fooling around and their car slammed into a tree. His girlfriend (the driver) lived, but the other was killed upon impact.

The worst thing is, I was going to ask her out at the Starbucks. She would've actually said yes too.

But life goes on. I don't believe in heaven or hell, and even if there was one, I doubt that god or whatever would be a big enough bitch to send an innocent to anywhere bad.

Thanks, guys. And I agree with Perndog about Hell, but at times like this, I can't help but think "what if I am wrong in my beliefs about Heaven and Hell?" I am even doubting an afterlife right now, but that will pass, I am sure.

Not to be preachy or anything, but do you want it to pass? Should you go back to your old way of thinking?

I always thought an event like this should get a person to change.

If every atheist found faith after losing a friend or relative, the world would be a lot more religious than it is now.

I find comfort in my belief system, and my friend's death isn't going to change it. All I was saying was that I was thinking things like "what if there IS no afterlife and I'll never be able to see him again, like I hope I can?" But, if my beliefs are true, then he's already either found eternal rest or is back here on earth to try it again.

P.S. Thanks, Cosmo. If I ever need to talk about it, I'll PM you. I am going to his calling hours in a little while. I can't make the funeral, though. :( It's this Saturday, and I have the ACT to take. I have delayed that too long.

I didn't mean it like that. I am not even sure of his faith.

I'm just saying that an event like this sometimes drives a person to be a little more introspective.

Just got back from the calling hours. I was hoping to make it without crying, but I couldn't. The funny thing is that I didn't cry when I saw the body. It was when they brought in his old football uniform in a frame that it really hit me that he was never going to wear it again. Not that you would know it, but I don't cry, and I couldn't help myself. I cried myself dry, and I'm not ashamed of it. I don't care who knows it.

Not meaning to be a dick but IMO Faith is just a state of mind and/or False comfort that there is something after death even eternal suffering is better than just ceasing to exis isn't it?

There is nothing in the Bible that says that souls are immortal. Nothing.

Umm... that's actually a line which came out during Nietzche's life... I think he even responded to it...

Oh well. Nietzche went insane anyway.
