This game is perfect. :D

It is relieving that I am not the only one who thinks so. Outside of the extended gameplay through corridors.

It has its flaws, but it's a huge step in the right direction for 3D Castlevania games.

I don't mind the corridors at all, 'cuz there's so much to look at in each one. The ceiling of every room are just as detailed as everything on the ground level. I thought the camera was going to suck, but so far i haven't had a single problem with it. Not a one. The exploration is mad fun, too! I've gotten 80% of the castle done but i only have like 30% of the items. SOTN style, baby. 8-)

The corridors are fine when going down them the first time, but the fourth and fifth times it starts to feel like a cheap device to increase gameplay time (since there are no teleporters).

But it has a solid battle system, plenty of hidden secrets to find, unique real-time item menu (a convenience I appreciated only after getting used to it), and really really great boss battles. So the monotony of the corridor walking is but a small thorn in this rose.

I still love running down the corridors, they don't bother me any. The boss fights were all fun, too, they all have something unique about them. My favorite so far was Joachim, because by the time i fought him i was using the cross and the purple orb to crush him into dust with Michael's Sword. Man, that attack rules.

SOTN is still a million times better.

LOI is ok but doesn't have alot of depth.

Whaaat? Not a million. No way. The Forgotten One whores every enemy and secret that SOTN ever had. That was just the coolest boss fight i've played in the longest time. SOTN was great, of course, but LOI offers better music, prettier graphics, and Theee Forgotten Onnnne :o. Not to say SOTN wasn't also perfect, but goddamn, i love LOI, probably more than SOTN.

LOI isn't even on the same scale as SOTN. Maybe you don't see that but I do. :(

Well that is why your name has RPG in it. So you probably like thick story and good voice acting, but this is about gameplay, but be realistic with your expectations. Comparing any game to SotN is stupid; you cannot expect every game to be able to compete with one of the greatest games ever made could you? LoI holds its own, and is a really fantastic game.
Forget about SotN, it is a freak game. Not every game can be as great as it was, and still is. This is the best 3D Castlevania by far, and introduces many new elements to the Castlevania universe that I hope stick around (like the whip jump). Hell, even compared to most of the series (which are all great), this game comes out as more fun.

SotN is definitely in my top 5, and LoI holds a spot in my top 20. They are both great, deal with it.

Thick story and good voice acting? Right. Your out of it man. I see you play alot of SOTN.

That's fine if you guys like your Castlevania watered down. :/ LOI doesn't even crack my top Castlevania games. I never said it was a bad game but when it is in the Castlevania series obviously I'm going to compare it to previous games. 3D or not. It is what you usually do with a new game in the series.

1. Castlevania: SOTN
2. Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest
3. Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse

How in the world is LOI watered down?? Did we play the same game? LOI is the most gothic and atmospheric CV so far, and it has absolutely the best music in the series for me. The game not only explained a few mysteries of the series for me, but it looked amazing and was incredibly fun. Are you complaining because it wasn't similar enough to the old titles? I love this game to death, and it is one of my top five favorite games of all time, easily. It had everything i expected and more, and seriously, The Forgotten One was just too fucking cool. The only complaint i have about the game is that you can't play as any other Belmonts, and that doesn't even count because they didn't exist yet! I don't know about you, but for me this game is absolute perfection.

It just wasn't as good as previous Castlevanias. Sure the game has a gothic feel and the graphics put the game in the mood but that wasn't what I was looking for. I wasn't looking for a survivor horror. I wanted a Castlevania game with great platforming. The transition seemed to lose that effect. It just became a killfest instead. Just wasn't that fun. You also act like the music was the greatest, I hardly thought so.

SOTN is the better game in my opinion. It isn't really much of a challenge. Seems I'm arguing about it alone but oh well.

The music was that much better. SOTN's was just too classical for me to really enjoy a great amount. LOI had a very unique sound to it, and it was strangely descriptive of the whole game. SOTN did not have bad music at all, but LOI is about eight steps up the ladder in my book in terms of music.

I don't know where you got Survival Horror from, there was still plenty of platforming, just not enough to make you have to jump all the time, something i'm very grateful for. I hate 3d platformers, a lot. They've very boring, but LOI mixed platforming in at a perfect ratio, to give the game just enough jumping and whipping to keep me entertained without it getting tedious.

Castlevania is a platform/action game. I just don't like the 3D transition I guess. It wasn't a survivor horror obviously but that is kind of the feel I got.

I want to have to make my way up a floor that keeps crumbling piece by piece trying to find the exact place to jump to to get up higher while plummeting to the ground. LOI had some platform aspects but it was hardly enough for a game that was based on it.

Even the later 2D games have taken away some of the old values of the series. I just don't like the 3D changing one of my favorite series more. We need a next gen 2D castlevania. Not on GBA but on PS2 or something. Take full effects of the power and implement it into a awesome 2D game. Lets bring Alucard back already.

The music in SOTN is top notch. I like the style. I was dissapointed when the same composer didn't have as many classic tunes.

I guess we just have to agree to disagree. I think SOTN is practically perfect and you think the same of LOI.

Sympony of the Night was bit over the top altogh everyone forgets the GBA games Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow, Aria was better closest thing to SOTN so far, the problem with lament of Innocence was it was TOO realistic, TOO short and constant repeating corridors cross Castlevania with Resident Evil and Metroid and this is what you get. Problem with SOTN Dracula was WAY TOO EASY all you need is the cross and the heart brooch and it's all over.
Top three
1.Aria of Sorrow
2.CV3 Dracula's Curse
3.CV2 Simon's Quest

note one thing to expect in Castlevania games is the consistant recycling of music in Circle of Moon The Clock Tower Tune from CV3 was in the clock tower and in the observation tower "Vampire Killer" was played from CV1 first level.

Yeah Alucard looks all cool now, but does anyone remember what he was like when he was first introduced in, I think, the Gameboy game.

He looked more like Fonzie: Vampire Killer

CastleVania 3: Dracula's Curse he made later appearances in the now infamous SOTN and in Aria of Sorrow.

the gameboy castlevanias where brillient, except for harmony of dissonance, but aria of sorrow and circle of the moon are my 2 favorite gba games (its a real bitch trying to get a copy of aria these days tho)

its cool gettting the mad weapons in aria, like excalibur (with large boulder attached) or the soul that turned you into the massive metal demon thing.

a next gen castlevania would kick ass
