Not too many Bands can survive after a good member leaves/dies. But there are few that do. Who do you think are the best band replacements?

Mine would have to got to:

Jeff Beck replacing Eric Clapton - Yardbirds

Bruce Hornsby replacing Brett Mydland - Grateful Dead

Victor Bailey replacing Jaco Pastorius - Weather Report

:rock Although I don't care much for the guitar gods, this guy's my favorite. Completley unique approach.

I think Doug Yule did a great job covering for Cale.

Lets see you come up with a good thread without talking about a band that has already been discussed 10,000 times you negative nancy. >:

Ron Wood replacing Brian Jones in the Stones. I'm not saying he was necessarily better but was a more than adequate replacement.

I think this is a great thread, and Royal is being a dick. I think we need more cool discussions without mentioning bands again and again. Nobody wants to make these boards interesting. :(

But Doug Yule replacing Cale? Yule was ok, but Cale is brilliant.

Drew Katsikas

He was the perfect progression for the band, and the fact that he made the next two albums just as great means hes the best replacement. He may not be better, but still./

Replacements never really can live up to the person they are replacing. :/

If someone brings up the David Lee Roth being replaced by Sammy Hagar or the Bon Scott being replaced by Brian Johnson thing, a sharp stick in the eye will immediately follow the comment and/or inquiry. That is all.

Both bands always sucked, so I don't see why anyone would.

I'm not really a major fan of either band either; however, taking into consideration some of your previous musical endorsements, I'll take that comment with a grain of salt. Most of your musical posts sound like those smug, self-important fags that compile the best of/worst of music lists in magazines that are usually comprised of obscure bands and/or songs that nobody but they and their tight circle of butt-buddies has ever heard of.

Snob or not, the music he listens to should be known of by anybody that listens to music. Iron Mitchell is the obscurist.

no, iron mitchell just listens to music he likes, some of it being obscure, some not. a lot of the stuff i listen to is pretty popular in noise/experimental circles. and most of my friends mostly listen to indie rock and classic rock. i am a fag though. it feels good.

Royal Tenenbaum
Apr 22nd, 2004, 12:19 AM
I have no idea how obscure my music is, but I'd side with not very. I listen to a lot of 60s stuff that isn't really mainstream per se, as well as other stuff that's not really popular but still kicks ass. >:

If you want to know what Royal Listens to, just read all the good reviews and "100 greatest" editorials that the Rolling Stone has written in the past five years. :lol

I love that you guys think that. Pretty it's not completely true. Plus, I can't help it that the music I listen to is actually good, and other intelligent music listeners enjoy it. I don't read those types of lists, so they don't influence me.

Bobo Adobo

Rolling Stone writers aren't intelligent music listeners. They are a bunch of buffoons on corperate payroll who are all about capitalizing on hype surrounding today's acts.

Half of the time Rolling Stone doesn't even talk about music, the get all cought up in how "important" the band is. The way you talk about music is like reading an article in the Rolling Stone. Its not a good thing.

hey bobo,
why do you seem to have such a problem with royal's posts? i mean, i personally don't listen to most of the stuff he posts about, and i can see how you'd find some of his posts a little "journalistic"(?) sounding...
but geez, you're really pounding on him. chill out. you, of all people, should know that it's his opinion and that one thing that's far worse than a halfhearted opinion (not saying royal's is, of course) is someone who bitches about someone else's opinion.

Sorry, I don't try to come off like that, I just don't like it when people tell me what music doesn't and does matter. I really don't go around this forum and tell people there music sucks, unless they insult mine.

I actually like most of what Royal listens too.

iron mitchell

well, that's cool. noone should really tell people what music matters and what doesn't. but we all get high and mighty sometimes, i guess. no biggie.

For me, it wasn't so much his musical tastes as his attitude. I made a joke about two controversial replacements in mainstream bands that I've often heard tossed about. As I've mentioned, other than some of their early stuff, I'm not a major fan. As stated, it was a joke. What does Royal do? He stated his opinion in such a smug tone as to not only dismiss the two bands (not a big deal to me) but to infer that my post isn't worthy of consideration either. Read his post again and you'll see what I mean.
