I checked out Mr. Wongs, but keep in mind I predate the computer age. How does this work? What do you do?
I would almost certainly participate but I need to know more of what to expect.
And we could beat that fuck Wong whatever the hell this shit is!

It's pretty simple:
1)We start off with an I-Mockery Virtual Building.
2) A few templates are created for levels/apartments in this building.
3) Anybody wanting to participate downloads the template and then draws in their own artwork (and no, you don't have to be an "artist" to participate).
4) You send me your custom apartment template graphic and I add it to the building.
5) Watch the I-Mockery building grow :o

What did the 'ring doorbell' feature do?
Doopa will have a way cool apartment. Will you guys share, or do you need a 'dad's pad when ma's mad."?
Can we have a feature so I can light a virtual bag of virtual dog shit on virtual fire on your virtual porch, ring your virtual doorbell, then hide behind a virtual bush and watch as you panic and virtually stamp on the bag getting melted virtual crap all over your virtual pants leg?

What did the 'ring doorbell' feature do?
I don't think it actually did anything, though I'm sure we could have sound features added to the building.
Doopa will have a way cool apartment. Will you guys share, or do you need a 'dad's pad when ma's mad."?
You mean we're supposed to be living together? I knew I was getting screwed on this marriage deal. Paying for two apartments all these years... damnit! But yeah, everyone will be allowed to have at least one space of their very own.
Can we have a feature so I can light a virtual bag of virtual dog shit on virtual fire on your virtual porch, ring your virtual doorbell, then hide behind a virtual bush and watch as you panic and virtually stamp on the bag getting melted virtual crap all over your virtual pants leg?

Well if I can't find a pixel artist to volunteer to help out with the creation of the initial building structure and the templates, I can always use some sprites from a video game. The skyscraper from the beginning of Megaman 2 comes to mind:
http://www.i-mockery.net/newpics/megaman-building.gif
Still, I don't think the layout of this particular building would cater well to what we'd want to do. So if there are any pixel artists who'd like to volunteer, or if you know one that you think would help out, please let me know.

the_dudefather
Apr 23rd, 2004, 04:55 AM
so it may not be isometic, mr wong style? the 2d version would be easier to make templates for and to make floors. but no look as cool... unless it was all done with nes style graphics that is...
the actual megaman style building would be cool, complete with starry city background and megaman (or the -rog- megaman that someone mentioned) at the top.

I wouldn't charge for something like this, but there would be some basic requirements for drawing on the template (all of which would be explained later on). Anyway, I do prefer we find a good pixel artist that can start off the building and the template from scratch as opposed to using some old video game building graphic. Still, I have some ideas for video game buildings that might work.

Personally, I don't care who works on the project as long as the quality is good. I'd need to see some samples of the person's pixel art before I got them to start on drawing the building.

How extensive work are we talking about? If there are about five different templates to choose from, I can probably squeeze some out. If there's supposed to be one blank template with a big set of elements (windows, doors, posters etc) to choose from, it's a bit too much for me to take on right now.
But yeah, Helm is the way to go if you can find him and he has the time.

It's nothing too big.
First, the artist would need to draw the top and the bottom of the building. Those would be the most involved things because they would have other graphics (people, scenery, whatever).
Then the artist would have to draw the middle building section, including a few blank template pieces that people could choose from to fill in on their own.

Hello. I am recovering from some major hardware (motherboard) and software (virii) problems. But it seems I've finally got everything under control... for now.
Now the style of artwork that would best work for this kind of thing is 'isometric'. All right angles and stuff like in the Wong building. I'm not too good at the style and frankly there are several pixel artists that are exclusively making isometric pixel art. The best one around is a person going by the nickname Zoggles. His website is at www.zoggles.co.uk. Another is Gunstar Red with his army of trolls website at: http://www.armyoftrolls.co.uk/ Both are amazingly better than me at iso pixel art and I suggest you hire either of them to create your template. If however neither are available or you're too cheap to pay for their services, I'm prepared to give it a go. No promises though.

Welcome back Helm. :o
I doubt they'd want to do it cuz I'm not paying for this particular project. It's just a silly lil' idea that may or may not work out. But I'll be more than happy to give some free stickers or whatever if ya like.
So yeah... give it a go if ya can, Helm.

Okay I will make the template when I get the swing of pixel art again (computerless for two months). Now is the time to give me specifics. I'll definately have a big I-mockery (complete with pickleman) sign on the roof, but any other stuff you want to see on the bottom floor and on the roof, now is when you (Mockery, not you other fags) tell me. Cameos, signature stuff you know.

WAAAAIIITT!!! HOLD EVERYTHING.
Now my opinion may be pretty lame because I'm new here, but whatever. Why do we have to go and do isometric pixels like everyone else? A tall building idea is cool, but i think we should do vector style instead. Clean, huge black outlines, shiney marks. That sort of thing.
It's just an idea. Since the pixel thing has been done. It could still be in idometric format. It would just be vetor. It wouldn't even have to be real vector. It could just have that feel. Like this image:

Sorry, not interested in Vector. Vector graphics, along with 3D are just overused these days. I prefer the nostalgic look that comes with pixel art. Besides, a lot of the content on I-Mockery is based on the old pixelated games, so having a pixelated building is very appropriate.
Anyway, Helm is working on a crazy building and he might have something to show me later on this weekend. I'll keep you people posted.

I always thought 8-bit art was more appealing than this 3D BS they put out today. :(
subterfuge
May 5th, 2004, 09:40 PM
I guess I gave the impression that I don't like 8-bit. I love the hell out of it! I just think it's so over done recently. Everybody's going nuts with the style. I was thinking since an 8-bit pixel building already existed, along with gobs of other pixel city sites, that it would be fun to create a new style for a tall building. Although, I'm down for the whole idea anyway, since I missed my chance at the original tall building :) So, let's do it!
