Mockery

The episode of Family Guy tonight had Louis becoming a martial arts master... and the husband starts talking shit to everybody so they'll try to attack him, but she fights them off. So at one point, he says "Krypton sucks" and then Zod, Non, and Ursa come to attack him, and Louis then does some martial arts moves on them and throws 'em into the phantom zone.
God I love this show. :picklehat

Yeah, that one's still funny. It's a shame there's probably thousands of people who don't even get the reference though :(

I don't get a lot of the references in Family Guy, but I know their references, so I usually just laugh at how funny they probably were :(

There was a great site that doesn't seem to be up anymore (familyguyfiles.com) that explained every reference in every episode.
I get like 90% of the references on Family Guy. MST3K, not so much.

I remember that one I was choking went they were thrown into the phantom zone.
I usually understood all of Family Guys, I didn't get the Tony Robbins one at first because i didn't know who the hell he was till I saw Shallow Hal.
I don't get many of the MST3K refrences first watching, when I watch it like months later I understand it alot more and it makes it like a fresh new show.

There are some I don't get simply beause they spoof US commercials and stuff and I don't know very many US commercials. Commercial spoofs are rarely any funny anyway.
But that Zod thing was awesome. I'm going to trick my friends into watching that one when they come over tomorrow.

The one that made me the laugh the longest and hardest was that "8's enough" spoof. Funniest thing I've ever seen on tv.

I haven't laughed harder than the time Peter breastfed Stewie. His reaction when he woke up was fucking hilarious. :(

That better not have been a reference.

When Peter went into the out house and the bird tipped it over and he says "OHH...IT'S IN MY RACOON WOUNDS" I collapsed on the floor laughing hysterically.
I can't wait till it comes back on the air :(
I'd say I get 80 - 90 percent of the references on Family Guy. The ones I don't get I usually end up getting later on.

The Chicken fight on the Y2K episode was by far the funniest thing i had ever seen on that show. It wasnt so funny in terms of like jokes. But the fact that it was like a 5 minute long fight... with a giant chicken. And then when he opened his eyes at the end i just about died.
Need Chicken fight part two.

that, the karate fight scene, and the grinch fight scene made it the best action cartoon ever, easily surpassing every anime ever >:

Superman, what are you doing in hell?
The Family Guy is pure comedic genius.
And if you have noticed, some of the later episodes of the Simpsons are copying them in a subdued, almost non-funny way.
80% of the Jokes from Family Guy
60% of the Jokes from MSTK (during first viewing)
28 Episodes, and rising.

in the episode where peter gets jealous of his wife, this one scene had a singer on the stage dedicating the next song to all the ladies in the crowd, peter got enrqaged and came running from the back of the crowd to knock the singer out. man that was some good stuff!! :lol

Yep. It's pathetic. The high-ups on the show have been pretty vocal about how they think family guy rips them off but then they go around and blatantly rip off family guy. Whole episodes are copied but it's just not funny on the simpsons. The patriarch as death episode on the simpsons sucks but it's hilarious on family guy, same with the wife being tougher than the husband episodes.
Also, the trainspotting spoof where the baby of the family is crawling on the ceiling and turns it's head backwards was actually funny on family guy >:

my favorite family guy gag has to be when peter was on trial for fraud, and when everyone is saying "oh no!" the kool-aid man busts thru a wall and says "oh yeah!" then looks embarassed and backs out, yeah i fell down laughing.

it seems the current simpsons writers policy is:
-where wit and good humor fail, use wackiness, its funny. kinda.
-give a member of the family some kind of HILARIOUS injury.
-a inappropreate guest star can perk up a meaningless episode
-should these steps not create a fun episode, finish it off an put it on air, people will watch it anyway.
