I know this topic was made before, but what the hell. :(

I rented it many times, and I finally bought it. I just beat classic with all characters, and beat all the events (Jigglypuff is best for Event 51 :o) I plan to get 290 trophies, and if I ever get my hand on an Action Replay Pro, I'll ge the 3 secret ones. There are actually 291 trophies you can get in the game, but only in Japan. They removed it from the NA version because the trophy is of a character from a Japanese game called Demon World, and NOA were afraid that children would be scared of a game with the word demon in it. Bunch of pussies. >:

The other 2 are Mario Riding Yoshi, and Samus without her helmet. These were for a promotional event that you needed to go to to get them, so the ARP is the ony way to get them now. :(

Also, this is the only game where Peach has actual breasts and a possible panty shot. :(

Also, this game is the only game with the words "Super Smash Bros. Melee" in the title to totally fucking suck.

You can actually be Mario Riding Yoshi? Wow. :o

I'm really good at this game with Mario. I was good with Luigi in the second one because is ^ + B punch was fucking killer. He still has it in Melee, but it's completely vertical so it can't be used as a third jump.

Damnit. :(

Someone should make your title "Killjoy"

No, he's just talkng about trophies.

The game's novelty wears off really quick, and all you're left with is a shallow excuse for a fighting game. All the characters have virtually the same set of moves, and there is an immense lack of strategy. The only good qualities are the amount of unlockables, and most of the levels are pretty inspired (though I hate the ones where you have to focus less on fighting, and more on making sure you don't get hurt by the environment).

I just want more out of my gameplay.

Go fuck yourself. You never have anything good to say about anything. I like this game. I have been stuck on 284 trophies for a while though.

This game is awesome. Some of the country's best players live in the next town over, believe it or not. I play them every now and then, but they totally beat the shit out of me. That guy can use Ness like you wouldn't believe.

Funny, because I think I just did say something good about the game. It's that kind of fanboy attitude that pisses me off about Nintendo. If someone doesn't think every game they put out is a perfect 10, then they need to go fuck themself. Meanwhile, people buy anything that Nintendo makes, and they never have to improve on anything.

Fucking hell. If people stopped kissing Nintendo's ass, Link, Mario, and Samus would all probably be talking by now.

Because as we all know, Nintendo is the only company with fanboys. That's why you shold buy only Sony games, because everything else sucks. It's not like that's being a fanboy or anything, is it?

I just disagree with James' opinions about Nintendo's so-called "lack of improvement". Sure, they aren't the hulking behemoth they were during the SNES days, but they still produce a quality product that people can enjoy.

Link doesn't need to speak. He hasn't ever spoken (the CDi games don't count, they weren't Nintendo products) and it works just fine that way. Mario is the same way. Samus has spoken in at least one of her games, which was Metroid: Fusion. Granted, she was talking to herself, but it is still speech.

It just upsets me when people who like Nintendo's products are automatically labelled "fanboy" just because many people think Nintendo sucks. Nintendo isn't the only company with fanboys. Sony and Microsoft have their fair share as well. They all just need to learn that just because they don't like something doesn't mean that it sucks.

james, I used to think that SSBM was too shallow a fighting game (being a self-proclaimed connoisseur of the genre), but it really isn't. this game takes a lot more skill than I thought and I really underestimated it at first. try playing with some friends or against three level 9 computers.

I single out Nintendo, because they're really the only company who has their own character fanchise. Mario, Samus, Link, Star Fox, F-Zero, etc. Microsoft and Sony don't. I never said that people should buy Sony games. I just said people should demand better from Nintendo's games, than to just eat up anything they put out. Other company's are guilty of the similar things, but Nintendo is really the most blatant example.

I just disagree with James' opinions about Nintendo's so-called "lack of improvement". Sure, they aren't the hulking behemoth they were during the SNES days, but they still produce a quality product that people can enjoy.

They still produce products, though quality is debateable. Sure, there is a lot of brilliant innovation included in many of their titles, but actual gameplay and design - with some exceptions - can really feel uninspired, as if they're just going through the motions to make a mediocre game, then slapping Mario and friends in it to make it a great game.

Sure, they don't NEED to speak, but it was just an example. There are a lot of little things that could round out many games to really bring your enjoyment level up. Using that example, I would feel that voicing the characters beyond a few grunts and 2-word lines could really add a LOT to the games. Another example would be developing consistent storylines for the worlds and characters. Metroid's really the only one that has that, and I think that developing more story for their games would keep more gamers interested in completing the game and giving them a sense of accomplishment.

Well, I only said that because of the response to my comments. I did say some positive things about the game, and I've said positive things about other Nintendo games. But just because it wasn't ALL positive, I catch shit for it.

james, I used to think that SSBM was too shallow a fighting game (being a self-proclaimed connoisseur of the genre), but it really isn't. this game takes a lot more skill than I thought and I really underestimated it at first. try playing with some friends or against three level 9 computers.

I have. It just doesn't grip me. It's a fun game to play, and I'm not denying that. But I'm just saying that there's not enough to keep you playing it for too long because of how simplistic the gameplay can be. The unlockables do help, though. I'm not saying the game should be as complex as Virtua Fighter 4 or something, but I just think the characters and mechanics could be refined a lot more to better differentiate them in battle.

Those are the kind of responses I like to get, James. Intelligent and well spoken. Well done indeed.

I hope you know, though, that I wasn't saying you were a Sony fanboy, just pointing out that the other companies have fanboys that are just as rabid as anything Nintendo has in their kennel.

You are entitled to your opinion about SSB: Melee, but you might want to word it differently in the future. At first you said "Also, this game is the only game with the words 'Super Smash Bros. Melee' in the title to totally fucking suck." but then you said It's a fun game to play, and I'm not denying that. It just seems like you are being a little hasty with your judgement.

Auto-Response Bitching Button Engaged.

I played SSB: Melee against an Japanese Exchange Student ourfamily was hosting 2 years ago, and it was hell on earth for me.
I could barely land a hit. He would hit me off balance, jump back, jump in, hit me across the screen, run over, and hit me the milisecond I stode up after I recovered. Dodging the "counter standing up attack" while doing it. Very embaressing when a 13 year old kicks a 18 year old's ass at his own game.

My wording's just a little confusing. It can be fun at first. It has the novelty of playing as the Nintendo characters and fighting one another in interesting environments. But it wears of really fast, with only getting unlockables driving you to keep playing. Had there been no trophies in the game, there would have been very little to really cover up the shallow gameplay.

I don't necessarily like the game, but I do see how it can be enjoyable. I just don't see how it can be enjoyable for long periods of time.

No, you can get it using Action Replay Pro, but that's the only way. Nintendo can make good games, but this is their biggest flaw. I'm not saying have a game where Mario goes on a murder spree, but I would like to see games like Zelda with more violence. If they are scared of the word demon in a T-rated game, then there's a big problem. :/

On GameFAQs, someone found a cheat code. Now I wouldn't trust it if they posted it on the board, but it's in the main SSBM secrets section. I think it's fake. See if someoen can get it to work. :O
