Let's see here, what have I got here? Oh yeah, a bunch of comics. In this thread I'll tell you what comics I bought while in England.
Hellboy: Conqueror Worm
Hellboy: the Chained Coffen and Others
Akira 1
Tom Strong Book One
the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. 1
Batman: the Dark Knight Returns
Pirate Club issue #2
Preacher: Gone to Texas.
that's it.
Now I doubt most of you have ever heard of Pirate Club. Well, it's kind of semi-underground. It's about these three kids who want to be pirates etc. and therefore seek contact with the town's one-handed old garbageman, thinking him to be a pirate.
Now, they want to be real outlaws, and trying to be this, they accidentally kill a kid one of them was being payed for to be friends with. They leave the body in the river, and think that the cops are after them, however, the dead kid doesn't seem to have been a normal kid. So there's sinister stuff and all that. Anyway, the garbageman promises to keep the cops off their tails and they set sail on the river, sailing from adventure to adventure.
Now, I only read the second issue, but it's a really nice comic book. Funny, the art fits really well and you can easily keep track, even when reading just one issue.
And Tom Strong. Well, I don't really remember anybody talking about him on these baords, so let me go on about him too.
Tom was raised by his scientist father and mother in a high-gravity environment on a hidden tropical island, granting Tom superhuman strength. His parents died in an earthquake, so the islands inhabitants take it on themselves to finish raising Tom. Tom them leaves for Millenium City in order to do good with his strength and immense intellect.
There's also his wife, Dhalua, who's one of the natives of the island, and then there's their daughter Tesla and their steam-powered butler Pneuman, and the intelligent ape King Solomon.
Then there's the villains. Awesome, awesome villains. There's the nazi superwoman Ilsa Weiss, the Modular Man who used to be a comouter scientist, but discovered he was going to die soon and broke down his mind into a self-replicating module, and of course Paul Saveen. Saveen is an awesome psychopath. Read the book.
Also, Tom and his family are kept young by the Goloka Root, which grows on the hidden island and stuff.
Just read the damn book!
