This has nothing to do with politics, so I'm going to ignore it forever.

It has a lot to do with politics.
If you don't like McDonald's, don't eat there. The same goes for smoking.....

it teaches children subliminally that happiness=food.
No it isn't its being ungodly open about it...
and if it's subliminal no one would notice but your obvious scrupulous tendencies saw past the facade of innocense.
I don't know if you notice but ALL corporations try to get people to use/eat/ buy there products. If you're in a resturaunt they're going to try to get you to stay or come back more, because its like an open market. Do you see any burger king ads in a mcdonalds.
It doesn't matter if its mcdonalds or a casino people who run any type of business will try to squeez every dime they can get out of you. Those 'subliminal' messages might buy them enough to pay themsleves off and than more.
I've just had it with all these people continuosly calling corporations evil and whatnot because they want people to buy there product. This is how capatalism has evolved and unless you find a way to completely overthrow the system, to bring this utopia about, there's noting you can do.

Subliminal ads don't work, and it's been proven dozens of times. Everyone has a different threshold for noticing things, so what might be obvious to you might be unnoticeable to me; that's why it doesn't work.
Companies that still try it are only wasting their money.
Now, were the words chosen purposely? Yeah, probably. It could also be that they're the best words that they had room left over for in the rinky-dink 12 letter word search.
Looking at it like MacDonald's is encouraging eating disorders by getting kids to draw a line through the maze to help Grimmace find his shake is retarded. A kid isn't going to associate fat people with being happy after finding a shake; that's reading too much into it. You're seeing only what you want to see. The kid will more likely associate big purple blobs with shakes.

To various degrees, subliminal messages can work.

Only if it is tuned PRECISELY to your perceptions. Otherwise, it either stands out or not noticed at all, rendering it useless.
If you seriously think that companies are investing heavily in subliminal marketing, you are deluding yourself and paying too much attention to conspiracy theorists who chafe at barcodes.

Why don't you come back when you know what you're talking about?

Geggy, you don't know the half of it. I'm watching TV and this 30 second skit came on. It had people eating and enjoying MacDonalds! Like they want me to go in and eat that food. Isn't that just evil?

In the words of one another, a talking camel does not convince kids to smoke. I grew up on Bugs Bunny, but you don't see me sticking dynamite into my friends' mouths.
And yes, that's related to this discussion. Bitch.

Probably not, but there's gotta be a problem when a school like mine has an estimated 60-70% frequent smokers. Hell, half the school lights up before they even get off the grounds at the end of the day.

it's called marketing, and it is a billion dollar industry.
yes, decision making processes are easily influenced, and if you can't acknowledge that then you're probably too thick for subliminal messages (which is why they use blatant messages anyway)
