This is just another example of how impatient our society is. We can't even bare to wait a few years after Reagans death to start thinking about memorializing him. He wasn't an amazingly great president, but apparently he was good enough to boot of someone like hamilton or jackson... >:

When Trudeau died a few years ago, lots of people wanted to put him on our money. The $20, if I remember correctly, because a lot of people felt that the Queen was on enough of our currency and we were in the process of redesigning it already.

After about a week, though, everyone stopped caring and we realized that our paper money is already covered in enough old wrinkly guys.

We ended up renaming some mountain after him instead. Or a lake up north. I don't remember, because in the end, it didn't matter. :)

Well, Andrew Jackson was responsible for the Trail of Tears, so I wouldn't mind seeing him removed from the $20.

Shortly after Trudeau retired from politics I always thought and still do that he'll eventually end up on the $20 bill for the simple reason that he still ranks as the most interesting Canadian among Canadians.

Andrew Jackson was also a significant political figure in the shaping of our party system. Hamilton wasn't even American born, nor was he ever president (obviously due to the latter former fact). I'd have no problem replacing him with Reagan.....

I think I read where he actually clocked the assassin with his cane and proceeded to give him a woodshed cursing.....

The assassin had two derringer guns. The first one misfired at point blank range, and Jackson became enraged, and just as he was about to beat the crap out of him, the assassin whiped out the second gun and fired again. The second gun also misfired. Then Jackson started beating him over the head with his cane, knocking him to the ground.

After the attack, Vice President Martin Van Buren began carrying guns with him whenever he went to the Senate.

On an interesting side note, the odds of both guns misfiring was calculated by later historians to be one out of 125,000.

Reagan didn't manage to dodge in time. He was shot in the chest.

I thought that Jackson was actually wounded in a duel, very seriously, and survived. I had an American History teacher who told us that Jackson's campaign people used it as one of those "proof that God wants him to be President" things, or something like that.
