They give the invites out at random. I've only had gmail for 2 days, and I already have 6 invites. :O

My last name is McClain. Would I get one by inheritance?

Jesus, 1 GB? I could see this being abused by people putting warez and shit on them and giving the passwords out to those elitist bastards on IRC kind of thing. That is if it stays free.

I'm sure it won't be free for long, not much in this world is....

I think it will stay free. Google relies on advertisements to make money. These ads are very much personalised. If they can scan your emails, they know even more about you, and can boast even more succes with their advertisements. Nobody else on the entire internet will be able to target people with ads as well as google can. The result is that google will have a monopoly on ads. And monopolies are where the money is at.

Incidentially, I think Gmail is about to go public, because I've also been bombed with new invites. 5 new ones 4 days ago, 5 new ones today... I'm almost out of friends here :)

my family isn't really good with technology...in fact i showed my grandmother a computer and she couldn't find the power button
they're like "e-mail...DEVIL!! BACK!"
they use the good ol telephone
i think they're intimidated by the amazing fast speed of my pentium II
