Took the kids to the beach last night to throw breadcrumbs in the ocean.

Had apples, nuts and honey. Cordie wouldn't touch 'em. Didn't believe me that honey is 'sweet'.

Can someone inform the non-Jewish folk about the significance of this holiday? Particularly the apples and breadcrumbs and honey part. That confuses me.

The throwing away bread crumbs is a symbolic emptying of your larder, ie. disposing of regrets, cleansing your soul, etc.

The apples and honey are your hopes for a sweet new year. They didn't have candy back then. And Cordie rejects sweetness spontaneously.

The nuts re becaue I'm going to be as nuts next year as this year and there's not a damn thing that can be done about it.
