I heard Thyrfing a year or two agao, and at the time i thought they sounded like some amateur power metal, but it seems like i either heard a mislabeled MP3 or heard some really misleading demo tape. I grabbed this out of some random collection on soulseek on a whim, and i'm blown away. I wonder why this band isn't talked about more? It's Swedish black metal so there's a hint of an old school sound in the vocals, but this band pulls off a more symphonic, classical sound, but not in the overdone sense that some other bands may pull. At points the vocals will remind you of In Flames, but don't let that turn you off. It all sounds so unique, and these guys make it seem so easy. My favorite track on the album is The Giant's Laughter, which features vocal harmonies, something i rarely catch in any BM these days. This song is fantastic to listen to, but my favorite part is hearing the doubled over vocals on the line "The flower has withered". I know that doesn't mean a lot to anyone else yet, but just listen to the song and you'll get what i'm talking about.

Ahh, Thyrfing. I've known about them awhile now. Good stuff.

Vannsinnesvisor is very good (The Giant's Laughter is only track I've heard extensively from it), but I've always preferred the earlier release, Valdr Galga. It's a lot more keyboard heavy. I also REALLY like the demo they did a while back, Hednaland (Ty Morkret Skall Falla sticks out in my mind), but it sounds nothing like the material they've done today.

Horrible viking metal bulshit. Sorry ninja, I completely dissagree. If you want shedish black metal, go with Dissection.

This should have been in The METAL Thread. >:

Thyrfing is anything but horrible. But whatever.

Dissection is good too. Nodtveidt is out of prison now, if I remember right.

Storm of the Light's Bane is probably one of my favorites from them, simply because the cover kicks so much ass, and also because 'Where Dead Angels Lie' is so fucking great.

What exactly is wrong with Thyrfing?

I thought the music was boring and derivate and soul-less. That's it.

ironically, i found what i heard of dissection to be boring. I don't believe Thyrfing are soulless (or even close to it) , nor have i heard anything to believe they're derivative, but to be fair, i don't keep track of much BM.
