View Full Version : Been a while since WC3 was mentioned

I was thinking we could set up a game again one of these days. There's been a handful of patches and a few new heroes since we last played.
Would anyone (with a cable connection or higher) be interested in playing one of these days?

New heroes? You mean those of the Frozen Throne, right, or have I missed more patches?
Funny enough, I've been practising custom games against the computer recently to get better. I still suck though, I'm not nearly good enough at creeping and exploring yet (pretty much just putting my hero to good use), and I pick the lousiest moments to attack or wait too long.
Then again, at the same time I've been trying to find ways to put the Orcs to good use.
But I've got a fast connection and I'm eager to get into some multiplayer fighting.

In an earlier patch, they added the Goblin Tinker. Now, they've added the Firelord and Goblin Alchemist. All are neutral heroes, and they seem to be quite varied in the skills the bring to the table.

I haven't played in forever, either. I'd probably have to remake an account, and I KNOW I have to reinstall. And having missed a number of patches, anything I MIGHT remember probably won't do me a bit of good now. Which is why I brought it up. I figured most of us haven't played a while, so it'd be fun since we'd all be at the same (lack of) skill level.

Ah, I just connected to battle.net and got the latest patch. And by the way it's good to see that the Orcs got made a little bit weaker, I think. What does it take to at least let Raiders put ensnare on autocast?
Eh, I just made a new account and I guess that makes me fatsatan@northrend. If we get this underway, be sure to let me know which channel and server I need to connect to.

We'd probably do it on US East, since that seemed to be where the majority of folks would show up.
As for Orcs, I hope you're being sarcastic. :( Their long game can be pretty good in terms of sheer force, but early on leaves them a bit too underpowered to even defend from early attacks.
The Grunt is the most costly and one take the longest to build, in terms of entry-level melee units. And while this is supposedly balanced out by their higher attack, their defense is second best (at 1. The Human Footman has 2, and Ghouls/Archers have 0), one Orc against 2 or 3 of other units - not to mention the cheaper cost leaves more money for upgrades - is still going to get fucked.

Oh yeah, I was being sarcastic, hence my remark on Raiders needing autocast for ensnare. Blizzard just love to emphasize the huge melee power of the orcs, but their whole ranged attack regiment sucks green cock. I don't even bother making headhunters anymore, they're gone before I'm even close to the enemy base. I think I read in the patch update that their towers have been made weaker, too, and unless a combination of bat riders and wyverns make for a stable airforce, you can pretty much always stomp them into the ground with some non-orc flying units. I'm trying to find ways to make them more effective, certain combinations of units, but I tend to get creamed before I get that far. Of course that's just in vs. computer games. But I can't help it, I want to like using orcs :(

Same here. I like the Orcs, but I just wish they wouldn't be assraped. At the very least, I'd raise their armor from 1 to 3. Because if I have to take a small number of them against a large number of forces, they should hold up.
I guess one thing I'd suggest, is play on B.Net and save replays against anyone who is using Orcs, and is beating the everliving shit out of you. Unless they're beating you by sending a Blademaster to kill your peons. That is the weakest fucking shit I've ever seen.
In other news, I never knew you got EXP bonuses for having upgraded town halls. :(

I've built a pretty sturdy Orc ranged force by combining the Alchemist, the TC, and a Shadow Hunter. Two tanks and a healer. Not to mention that if you max out the Alchemist's Chemical Rage skill and put Bloodlust and Endurance aura on him, combined with his ridiculously massive damage (2 Giant Strength Belts will put him at nearly 100 damage pretty early) he can take out a lot of units on his own.
135% + 40% + 35% + 70%(if you're fortunate to have an Undead ally with Unholy Frenzy) = 280% increased attack speed. 210 if you don't have an undead ally. It makes him attack about 3 times faster than the Demon Hunter.

EDIT FUNCTION STILL BROKE :(
It's actually 125% instead of 135%, and I forgot to take into account any pairs of Gloves of Haste you might find. My point is that he can take on 3 Ogre Lords by himself like this. :(

Yeah, but he can't take the pain. Focus fire him or the Firelord and they are GONE.

Yeah, but that really applies to any hero other than the Paladin with his Divine Shield bullshit. And the Blademaster if you're quick with Windwalk.

Not really. Demon Hunter is great as a meat shield. Due to his high agility and Evasion skill, he makes a great melee hero. There are countless other examples. Death Knight, Panda, etc. etc.

Not really, there are tanks like Chieftain and sometimes MK and DK.

Deathknight can cheese his way to being a good tank. He has a healing/speed aura and a 300 damage nuke. Don't even think about chasing him once he gets away.
