Before i have been happy enough just to edit pictures, usually to poke fun at fellow forum goers and such but of late i have decided to try and learn to actually draw things from scratch. Does anyone have any tips for learning to draw on a computer. Bear in mind i am using macromedia fireworks, not photoshop.
Also i would be grateful if anyone could recommend any other programs. I have freehand MX, anyone know if that is more suitable for the task at hand?
Anyway, here is something i have been messing with. Constructive criticism would be appreciated.

it would help if i knew what you are trying to accomplish in the first place. such as, how did you create this, what were you going for, ect.
it still looks like you're just doing one thing, (if that's yours to begin with) and editing away to your hearts content.
drawing on a computer isn't much different from drawing on paper. you just have to get used to it.

Well i was going for a cool looking, zombie like, face. I was mainly trying to get the lighting/shadeing looking semi good.
I made it by first drawing it with a regular baint brush tool then attacking it with the airbrush for about half an hour.
I did the pics with a hue and high contrast becasue i though they looked kind of cool.
btw, i cant draw for shit on paper :( .
thanks for the input anway.

if you can't draw on paper, there's not too much you can do better on a computer other than editing other stuff.
and it looks like you traced off of a face to start it.

*looks shifty*
umm no of course not... much... ..bah ok but not all of it.
Only the outline and mouth becasue i couldn't get them looking right.
anyway im trying to learn to draw becasue i cant already, thats the whole point. I prefer drawing on a computer becasue you can erase, move and generally edit stuff a hell of a lot more easily also put filters, blurs, colour adjustments, etc to make it more fancy.

While your giving free drawing lessons MLE I've been working on some masterful drawings myself.

This is just a quick doodle I did and I was wondering if I should hone my magnificent skills as an artist.

Thats just a silly doodle compared to my most masterful drawing, this drawing was so awesome in my brain that I didn't have time to get a peice of paper so i just drew it on my hand.

Militia, if you want constructive criticism, try some actual art forums. There is a lot more help out there. If you ask these people, they'll only supply you with their asinine opinions about how much you suck or how much better they are at drawing than you.

Post a couple more. If people can see more examples of what you're doing, it'll be easier to give feedback. I'm not sure what to make of the face thing.
