TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) A 45-year-old woman collapsed and died days after learning her son had been killed in Iraq, and just hours after seeing his body.
Results of an autopsy were not immediately released, but friends of Karen Unruh-Wahrer said she couldn't stop crying over losing her 25-year-old son, Army Spc. Robert Oliver Unruh, who was killed by enemy fire near Baghdad on Sept. 25.
''Her grief was so intense it seemed it could have harmed her, could have caused a heart attack. Her husband described it as a broken heart.''

Though I don't agree with the war, this kid joined the army knowing full well that he might someday be sent to war, and with that responsibility, he may very well lose his life. So, even though this is a tragedy, and he died in an unjust war, this should not come as a surprise to anybody.

When I was in high school, I wanted to join the military for a minute. My aunt and uncle sat me down and asked me if I understood that that might mean I might have to kill a bunch of people and possibly get blown up, shot or mutilated myself, and that it (my life and death) probably wouldn't be up to me at that point.
I honestly hadn't thought of it that way until they mentioned it.
It took like two minutes to tell me.
I'm pretty sure most of the people that actually joined the military figured this out at some point. Maybe somebody should have told this kid's mom. I feel bad for her, but I agree with Goat.

I'm enlisting because If there is another world war (wich I can see happening within 10 years) I'd sooner be shot in the face or blown up than be sitting at home and being vaporized

Who said he wanted to join the war? If you can't understand where the mother's coming from, you have no heart.

Of course we realize she was despondant over her son's death, but people don't join the military under the impression its a basket weaving operation.

I never said he WANTED to join the war, only that when someone joins the military, they should already know that they are signing themselves up for any potential wars, and that they might die as a result.

Ironically, I briefly concidered joing the peace corps.
My Dad told me about all sorts of tropical diseases I had no immunity to, reminded me of my scoliosis and informed me the peace corp was looking for people who liked hard, physical work.
Since the main reason I wanted to join was to impress this one girl I knew, his points made a lot of sense.

So it turns out the pyramids weren't built by slaves after all, but by specially chosen workers.
Or some shit. I saw it on TV.

Yeah, that's what the egyptians all say on the discovery channel.
And I think El Blanco was making a deliberate Vinthism, not making a dumb ass jew joke.

Regardless, you get jew'd at all over and even in Vinthian context it's gotten kindof irritating.
Maybe jokes just play out with me too easily.

It was a little of both. I do enjoy ethnic humor, but I'd like to think I'm a little smarter and funnier than most people who try it.

I can't beleive how many peopl think that we have the best army in the world and since we have such amazing technology we're immune to every sort of thing those poor uncivilized folk can throw at them.
