Played one for five minutes once. I don't remember much, but it was pretty bad. The entire system was doomed from the beginning. My dad borrowed one home from work when I was a kid, and the only game we bothered to play on it was Battleship due to the terrible controls. You couldn't really play a game more advanced than Pacman on it or manouvering would be impossible.

I've seen a few of them on there from time to time, but I just can't bring myself to buy them if they're that unplayable.

Weren't the controls just a VCR remote with a joystick protruding from it?

After watching these movies, it seems as though you would need to be heavily medicated in order to enjoy the gameplay.

Yeah. In fact, if you've played any of those games Disney includes on their DVDs, that's pretty much how most CD-i games played. The Zelda ones are actually pretty sophisticated compared to the average title.

If you watch the Wand of Gamelot one with the sound off, it looks like they're talking in sign language.

The animation reminds me of some 70s cartoons.
The Zelda game with digitized characters looks funny. The narrator has the worst fake beard I've ever seen. Ganon looks sorta good though.

I remember seeing the infomercial for cd-i so many fucking times I began to think it actually was the dawn of technology. They tried to profess it as a learning tool by showing kids pick the answer for 4x3 from a list of choices, showing that there is always a kid retarded enough to learn from just about anything.
BUt when they mentioned that it had games they only showed video from one of the zelda games of him jumping around. I thought that it looked much better than the nintendo link, and beat my fists together in anger knowing I would never play it. But now, thanks to the mirical of internet, I can be happy to be fortunate enough not to have played it.

The in-game graphics don't actually look so bad from what I can tell from the videos. But the controls look incredibly awkward.

My lord, I wonder how the hell they convinced Nintendo to even allow such shoddy productions to exist in the first place.
