View Full Version : Ashlee Simpson on SNL

I'm sure by now, most of you will have heard about this, but I'm taking the opportunity to talk about it since nobody else has made the thread yet. And Jewishcarpenter in the music forums doesn't count.

Jude Law hosts, Ashlee performs two songs.

First song, OK.

She is presented to do her second song later in the show. The band starts playing, and then she starts singing...

But she's not singing. She doesn't even have the mic to her face. The singing's also from the song they already performed earlier.

The band slows up for a moment, as Ashlee decides now is a good time to do a little hoe-down dance. The band tries to pick up by playing the first song, and she walks off stage (her singing is still being played, by the way). Then they rock out until they're cut off by commercials.

End of the show, she's on stage with the cast, looking embarassed as all hell. Her explanation? Her band played the wrong song, and she didn't know what to do.

So, she got totally fucking owned, and then blames the band, who were the only ones not only performing legitimately, but even tried to save her ass while she goofed around and ran away.

NBC pulled the SNL boards. Ashlee's site is bombarded with comments. Even IMDB is filled with shit. Videos are mirrors have popped up. This has all blown up in her face, and it is GLORIOUS.

I got the videos and shit downloaded, but I don't want to rape bandwidth by linking to the shit. Maybe if someone here could host the vids until they're put up on a major site.

How big is the file?

And also, is this Jessica Simpson's sister or something?

James

I got the performance and the "apology," which total 5MB.

And yeah, she's Jessica's sister.

I don't know if this is about the lip-synching or the fact that she completely fucked up, but as a fan of awkward silence, I give this two thumbs up.

I LOLed when she started jigging.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What a moron. When you thought she couldn't possibly have made it more awkward... she did a hoe down, then tried to (poorly) lie her way out of it by blaming her band.

But none of that matters, because Jude Law is sex on two legs, so it was all ok.

I agree with schimid this is a great day for awkward moments.

THAT was what pissed me off! The rest was funny, but that was just a spiteful thing to do. I hope they dump her.

Sad that was one of the funniest moments on the show.

From Lucky Magazine interview:

LM: What are your takes on lip-synching?

AS: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real
talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never
lip-synch. It's just not me.

lol

in all fairness though, im sure the band guys dont mind taking the blame too much, if she goes down they are out of the job, she makes them look stupid, who cares people that listen to this type of stuff dont listen for the band anyways.

and if they werent cool with it or didnt know about it. fuck her.

I'm sure though that in an "unfortunate accident" she'll find her skull to be on the receiving end of a guitar. Especially when the "damage control" results in the band being fired to continue the appearance that THEY are to blame.

For the apology part, be sure to watch for Jude looking at her with the "WTF" look.

I also hope that for years to come, there will be a joke about doing a jig in a time of crisis/panic.

"Doctor, we're losing the patient."
"Quick, everybody hoe-down!"

I thought it was fairly professional of the band to just keep playing. When you're live on TV there's no time run off stage and complain to Mr. Director that your whole act got ruuuuiiiined :wah

I don't believe any pop singer never lipsyncs, especially when they claim they never do.

Still funny.

:lol Some talkshow host should invite her over, then when they're in the middle of a conversation, the show's music suddenly starts playing and the host, crew and audience all start doing the Ashlee hoe-down. It'd be cruel, but funny in that ha-ha it-happened-to-Ashlee-Simpson way.

She apparently has an appearance somewhere in New Jersey later this week. I THINK some Something Awful Goons are planning to crash and bust into Hoedown Mode. I didn't read the whole thread, but I really hope it happens.

That was great but what's new? It'd be more of a contraversy if she actually sang the songs live. Don't most people have it on mute when watching these pop singers anyway?

I hate Ashley Simpson

See, it's not really the lip-sync that's the deal here, it's the fact that she blamed it on her BAND......that and it's hilarious that she spoke out against it in an interview.

Tune in to the TODAY SHOW tomorrow morning,
Tuesday, October 26th.

Ashlee Simpson sits down with Katie Couric to discuss her
Saturday Night Live performance.

can someone tape this? theres no way i'm be awake for this...

Although she'd initially blamed her band, Ashlee Simpson took full responsibility Sunday for her lip-synching snafu on "Saturday Night Live," saying that her voice was ragged from too much work.

"I can't cancel something like 'SNL,' " she said in a post to her official Web site. "You and I know that even if I synched on it or not, I'd still get seen by millions, maybe even make a few more fans. I'll hold my head high and say I think it was silly of me to do it, silly of me to blame the band, I was just so f---ing embarrassed. But I don't think it did me much harm, and people will see that soon."

Well, at least she admitted that it was stupid of her to blame the band for it...

But after they turned off the vocal track, she COULD have stayed and sang the song that the band was playing instead. But since she didn't, it makes me wonder if she can really sing at all.

"I was so upset," she said, "because I have never done that before. But my voice wasn't strong enough. I couldn't even speak."

She seemed to be speaking fine while explaining the whole thing at the end of the show.

James
Oct 25th, 2004, 10:34 PM
Here's where hilarity starts:

People have been impersonating her on her boards, modifying accounts with javascript to match her actual name on there. And MTV took those quotes to actually be from her.

Since then, they apparently did a phone interview with her, though.

James
Oct 25th, 2004, 10:47 PM
Here's where hilarity continues.

In the interview, she said she was suffering from GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE, and she couldn't even speak (she spoke fine in her shit apology at the end of the show). Then she said for tonight, she got a cortisone shot to make her feel better so she could perform.

HOWEVER, cortisone isn't a solution, it increases risk for the disease to occur. http://www.siu.edu/~shp/HealthEd/GERD.html

She's dumber than her sister. Just fucking admit you were using a lip synch track that night. Don't make excuses, don't blame others. Just say "Things fucked up," and be done with it. Everyone who is trying to do damage control is just making this even bigger. And I fucking love it. It's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

well the guy running the lip-synch DAT is part of the band, and he fucked up, so she wasn't lying.
