View Full Version : ELECTION DAY THREAD

Here we go folks.

I voted on my way in to work.

My stomach is in knots. I of course want kerry to win, but even more than that, I fear the swamp we may be in before the night is over. I'm praying for a clear cut victory, but fear multiple Florida's and what that could do to the country. And it makes me ill that when my country suffers the whole world feels it's pain, whether it wants to or not.

Fasten your angst belts. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

voted this morning. i was number 8 to vote in my precinct. when we got to lakewood city hall, there was about 75 people in line. by the time the doors opened and we were finished voting, the line went out the door and the parking lot was a zoo (by 7am).

i was supposed to go out with my good friend bob goddard to the east side (an area of cleveland where the minority is the majority along with being a very poor area) and watch for voter intimidation. he is putting up a reporter from the village voice named rick perlstein. unfortunately i have a stupid photography show on friday and i have to print and frame all of my photos by 6 tonight.

i'm hoping to hang out with bob and company later this evening to watch the results come in.

oh and last night, right here in my hometown about 50,000 people converged on mall c to support kerry. in wilmington, ohio about 6,000 people gathered to see george w.

i'm optimistic.

It's kind of crazy that this election is costing over $4 billion. That's almost HALF of the budget surplus that Canada had, and we were all giddy about how much extra money we had. :/

>: - We have no lineups over here during an election and we have a simple idiot-proof ballot standard across the country that even Vinth can ace. Everything's counted the same evening with no overpaid TV mouthpiece flip-floppin' on declaring a winner either.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Canadian voting process, we each take a one pound chunk of whale blubber and pile it in front of our candidate's igloo. Afterwards, they just weigh the blubber.

There was a scandal a few years back, though, when some people decided to stuff their blubber with buckshot. >:

I woke up this mornin' round 8am here on the east coast and gorggily moved my way toward a vehicle which seemed to want me to partake at Pineridge Elementary school. They had lots of Bush signs in the school yard. You know what the republicans..and smokers say: "Get em when they're young. That way they'll blindly agree with us without proper educated thought." Ah well. I casted my useless vote for kerry by about 8:30 am....watching the daily show tonight at 10 on comedy central. Hope you all do the same. Happy voting everyone.

people started lining up here about an hour before the polls opened. It's now 10:00 a.m. and it's raining blue cats...and they are still lining up. I saw on the new to expect heavy voter turnout and delays at the polls. I plan to vote after work this afternoon an my way to my night job.....

Good idea! No-one will think to vote after they leave work! ;)

I got there 2 hours after the polls opened and had to wait in line about 2 minutes, with the whole process taking about 10.

Thought it was interesting that with voting for judges, it said 'no more than 4', and there were only 4 choices. And they don't tell you that you don't have to vote for any of them. Unless they plan on using that against me to invalidate my vote. In the which case, USA! USA! USA!

Oh, and Kerry. ;<

i am currently registered with no party affiliation but was previously (prior to 2001) a registered democrat. i consider myself highly educated and involved when it comes to politics and our ever-changing social and political climate. that being said...

i voted for bush.

in other news, i stood in line for 2 hours saturday here in sunny florida to cast my vote. no problems other than the fact that i lost my right contact. i went back an hour later to look for it and i was able to walk around the lobby that everyone was waiting in. they wouldn't let me anywhere near the actual voting room, which i know is where i lost the fucking thing.

i would have to say that all the laws were being strictly adhered to and democracy in action is a fine thing to watch, but i'm still pretty fucking pissed about having to replace a 96.00 contact. in order to feel as though the 2 hours and 96.00 i spent on saturday counted, that texan better win.

Voted at around 11:30 today.

On the way in, a "Democrat for Bush" was arguing pretty loudly with a plain old Democrat -- something about how Kerry is "against the military."

I guess all the old people in my area got up and voted early. I went out over lunch, encountered no lines at all, and the whole thing took approximately 10 minutes. Barring a miracle, I'm pretty certain that Nebraska will easily go to Bush, but I voted for Kerry anyway.

Much to my surprise, a variety of web sites had great information on candidates, even at the state and local levels. There's no longer any excuse for anyone not to be informed about their candidates.

In Canada there's laws that say your employer can't do anything to you if you're absent because of you're voting. I think. :/

Either that or they have to let you out a couple hours early.

Do they come and kick your door down if you, say, register as a Republican and then vote for the Democrats?

no. but i would suggest they investigate voter fraud at that point, because what jackass would vote left if they bothered to register as a republican?

the real reason for the no party affiliation has to do with the fact that my chances of being picked for jury duty become slim to none, which kicks all kinds of no-desire-to-sit-in-court ass. that, and i never get those tacky signed photos of the candidates that come along with the "send us money chump" solicitations.

AChimp

But you're not defrauding the system by switching your vote, since you're still only voting once.

If you're expected to vote the way you've registered, why bother voting at all? They should just count the number of living, registered people that each party has on their list and whoever has the higher number wins. :lol

i don't know what the specific law is here but we got this email yesterday at work. i completely screwed the pooch by telling my boss i voted on saturday. i could have been sitting on my couch eating bon bons and wiping smeared mascara from my tears of joy as they read exit polls in swing states.

Hello:

Given tomorrow’s voting participation is projected to have the highest turnout ever you can expect long lines at your local voting location. For those that plan on voting before work, I recommend arriving to your voting destination by 7:00am.

Before you leave tonight, please let either your supervisor or myself know if you’re planning to vote in the morning or after work. I want to ensure we’ll have adequate office coverage in the morning – if there are long lines at the polls. Depending, on our collective voting schedule, some may need to leave before 5:00pm to vote after work.

Thank you,

Voted Bush.

I am perfectly willing to accept that a person can be intelligent and insightful and still vote for Kerry.

I'm actually appauled at the number of Bush goers in this forum. Not that popular vote matters, but Bush didn't take Nebraska by nearly as wide a margin as I had expected. I don't feel my vote was wasted.

Anyway, I think California and Oregon are going to go to Kerry. Kerry's also handily ahead in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

There are people still in line at the polls in Ohio as I write this, and a judge has ordered those polls to remain open.

By all accounts I've heard so far, we're still not likely to know for sure at least until morning.

Ohio to bush for 269, I'd wager NM goes to Bush and the rest to Kerry.

Long-term prediction is that Kerry won't concede tonight, but will in the following weeks, and then we'll find out widespread voter fraud (especially in electronic voting machines) after it's way too late, just like in 2000.

So, now it's time for me to try to run my company as hard as possible to get in a financial position where we can safely move to another nation. Not necessarily because I think the country will be unlivable under Bush, but because I'm associated with a nation that is 51% retarded and I'm frankly ashamed to live here.
