Maybe they were hoping for this one to ride the success of the previous two games and people would just seek it out, and they could save about 3 billion in advertising.

Good point, people are going to need something diffrent as their greatest game in the world (halo 2 or GTASA depending) finally ends.

I'm gathering the funds for this as we speak. But I kinda wanted the mgs2 to keep going because I like the weird transcedental type story that it had going. Either I've already whored my self out to the mgs franchise so I'm getting it.

I got it a couple days ago and I hafta say is it has a slightly different feel. The enemies are more aware of your presence this time around And, sneaking behind them is a tougher task.

Also, the new CQC combat takes a while to master. The camouflage B.D.U.'s are a cool new feature as well as hunting for food.

I'm playing it now.

I gotta say, I hated it at first. You can't do what I used to do, which is run out and kill a massload of people, then run away and hide while the next wave comes in, occasionally running past guards. In this one, you're in a completely open environment and there's no radar.

I hated it until I first met EVA. Then I started to realize that the game was forcing me to do what MGS 1 and 2 always wanted me to do, but I never listened. This game is force-feeding me divide-and-conquer tactics and I like it.

The cutscenes are ridiculous, though. I should've died six times by my count, if Ocelot wasn't such a fucking idiot.

Well excuse me for not being a MGS nut...

Stupid little fucktard bicth.

I won't excuse you for not knowing that it is in fact Big Boss who is the main character in MGS 3 because EVERYBODY ELSE ON THE INTERNET KNEW THAT. ALMOST EVERY BOARD HAS ALREADY TALKED ABOUT IT. INCLUDING THIS ONE. ALSO, THE FACT THAT IT IS BIG BOSS HAS ALREADY BEEN MENTIONED A MINIMUM OF FOUR TIMES ON ALL OF THOSE BOARDS.

I'm not an MGS nut. I haven't the slightest intention of even buying it because stealth games are not my forte or even remotely my favourite.

I am about as far as one could get from an MGS nut, and I knew this. This has nothing to do with me being a "Stupid little fucktard bicth" or whatever the hell that means, this only has to do with you being as observant as a dead slug.

I'm guessing that you have the brain capacity of a turkey. Try to not die of a heart attack when you hear paper flap in the wind. And yes, this actually happens to turkeys.

yeah theyre is a guy who can control bees, a spider man kinda guy, a guy who is really old and has "plant like abilitys". The main boss guy can control electricty and "The boss" is a master of CQC (close quarters combat) shes mean, she breaks your gun in half everytime you meet her :(

This post is definitely gonna have some SPOILERS in it, so don't read if you can't handle it.

This game more than any other made me realizing that Konami is shooting at something a little bigger then just video games in the stuff they put out. They're going for experiences, not games. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a complete experience. I hated the gameplay itself, because I realized that I need the radar to live. But the cutscenes kept me going, and that really says something. This is kind of how it is in the Silent Hill games for me also...I wish Konami could somehow up their gameplay a bit so I don't feel like I'm just continually working for minute-long FMV's.

Some highlights, in no particular order:

I thought the Sorrow battle was brilliant. I'd killed so many people with the throat-slit by the time I met him, so it was kinda intense. My favorite MGS boss so far, even including Mantis.

I really liked the ladder scene. Beautifully constructed and extremely simplistic. It reminded me of Silent Hill, with the long corridor, and I liked that.

I would've paid $50 just to see Ocelot's hand gestures for two hours. :lol

The ending was fucking RIDICULOUS. I beat Volgin for the last time at 1:30 AM. I just beat the game, tonight, at 3:00 AM. I beat Boss on my first try. The other hour and 25 minutes were nothing but wandering around with an injured EVA and insane cutscenes. The whole Ocelot deal was great, and I know they're tieing up some ends, but Jesus Christ.

I will say, though, I got a little teary-eyed at Boss' grave. :(

Game did a good job of shifting my emotions. I hated Boss, then I hated EVA, then I loved everyone :(

I like the Cobras much, MUCH more than I like Dead Cell. Fortune was cool, but Vamp and Fat Man pale to The End. pale

I really loved the game, but the sad thing is, I'm not remembering any of it right now, which might be a measure of it's success. My favorite moments were the ladder and the Sorrow fight, but everything else is just kinda faded.

Aaanyway, it kept me busy from 2 PM to 3 AM today, so I would say it did a good job of keeping me drawn in. There's nothing I'd go back for, though, because it's just that type of game. I'm really not interested in going back and getting new camo's or all the frogs.

So, it gets points for being a cinematic experience, a fitting seal to the trilogy and awesome bosses.

...But loses points for a lack of replayability and the fact that I can't vividly remember anything besides two parts.

8.25/10

Schimid
Dec 12th, 2004, 07:39 PM
It was a timer, telling you how much longer you had until the bomb went off. I'm told it varied depending on the difficulty, but the fact that Sorrow is invisible and flying around while the bomb ticks away and you can't do anything about it, kinda made me feel a little tense.

I hate timed areas in games, by the way.

I know i'm going to sound like i'm gushing, so excuse me. I have a raging hard-on for this series.

SPOILERS AHOY

IT WAS FUCKING INCREDIBLE. I would say it's my favorite of the series, but they all have things i love about them to keep them fighting for tops.

Cobras? AWESOME. The Fury was probably my favorite fight, but The Sorrow is easily my favorite member out of them all. I am also with Schimid in that he is absolutely the top best boss out of the entire series for me. His fight was so perfect for his character. When i saw him i thought "oh great, a goth character", but when the moaning corpses come at you, you realize that he's a badass, and then when he hits you with that screaming beam of agony or whatever, that's when i was sold. He was perfect.

The Fury was also cool, even though i made the fight harder on myself by not using the front of the room. He just screamed out "Fucked-up GI Joe" a little more than the other guys.

Sigint was actually helpful, and interesting.

Weapon prizes for beating the game :D

Volgin: Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. Sadistic gay electric man. I love how he's a complete badass until he has to fight snake hand-to-hand, and then he wants oceot's help. His hand-to-hand moves looked pretty cool too, something that Liquid completely lacked. How many bosses in the history of videogames will hit your character with an uppercut so hard that it breaks his ribs and makes him puke? Not enough, that's how many.

Ocelot: got even cooler with this incarnation, ironically. That is to say, as he's so much cooler in 1 & 2 now by comparison to this fairyboy. The SSA is probably my favorite gun to use, too, just because you can twirl it. :O

The standard Metal Gear final battle was a little disappointing, but iy was also pretty unique, and still very fun. Nothing's going to top doing the multi-ray fight on extreme mode in MGS2, though, so i can hold nothing against it.

EVA: the game totally played me. I was like "SPY SPY SPY" from the moment i saw her, and then we find out she is one, but that she's a triple-crosser like ocelot :O

All the loose ends i can think of were tied up in this one, and i was almost certain the series had forgotten the Patriots until the very end. Now i have to finish mgs2 again to figure out what the hell ocelot had to do with them besides being a member.

The knife was fantastic, but i never got the gator cap. I wanted to jump outta the water like a ninja and rip some throats out :(

You can throw poisoned food to bosses :D

The ending was incredible, too. Some things weren't really necessary to have to play, though. Pretty much everything after the final shagohod fight excluding the battle with boss weren' necessary, but it's very considerate of konami to do that to keep us interested. I know that at the end of MGS2 i had no interest in watching every one of those scenes again after i finished it once.

Oh, man, i totally forgot why Solidus is alive, too. I thought only Solid and Liquid survived Les Enfants Teribles?

Big Boss.

Big.
Mother.
Fucking.
Boss.

He has gotten so much cooler that i think he might even outshine snake. But that's a really tough call. Not only did they give Boss a source of income and a motive behind the overthrow of zanzibar and the development of the first metal gear (uniting the world, or wtf ever the philosophers wanted), but they also gave him a motive for his hatred of the US. It's fantastic. I love how he refused to shake anyone else's hand when he got his medal, showing us the real turning point between Snake and Big Boss. Loved loved loved that. The grave scene was pretty sad, though ;_;

Poor T. Boss ;_;

Oh, yeah, loved the way they kept ripping on Raiden. Don't misunderstand me though, i liked Raiden. No, he's not Snake, but who fucking cares? We don't need ANOTHER Snake running around. He'll be a grizzled old veteran in another ten years anyway. But i found it amusing that the Major you had to imitate looked like Raiden, and that he happened to be very effeminate and quite literally gay. :O

One more thing: My friend and i find snake's reaction to nasty foods to be completely hilarious.

"SIIIICK!"

Schimid
Dec 13th, 2004, 07:26 PM
LOL @ Raikov.

During the Volgin fight, I put on Raikov's mask, and it fucked with his head. He started saying things like "...Raikov? Is that you?" and then he'd try to attack me all fierce a'cause I killed him.

I actually think it might've made the fight easier. His attacks seemed fiercer, but I could get behind him much easier.

Apparently there are several ways to beat volgin. :O

My friend said he would point his gun at him, and then shoot him in the back when he charged up. I would throw a stun grenade and simply blast him with whatever gun i had handy as soon as it went off. I'ma try yoour method next. Did you get Volgin's Cold War camo? I don't think i did anything special, but i got it and adept didn't, and we both played on normal mode. O .o

Beat it again tonight, clocking in at 7:15, compared to my 20:37 time on my first run through. The Patriot helped greatly in mowing down everyone. No one was able to withstand that bastard, it made the Volgin and Boss fights obscenely quick. Don't even ask about The Fury. the ending was so long and I didn't like dragging eva around

I'm with Tim on this one. I liked MGS the best.

Also, I haven't gotten very far (because I suck at this), but I don't care for this Eva person. *Spoilers* Sure, the part where she gives Ocelot a motorcycle uppercut is funny, and it's kind of amusing that the first person view is always of her chest (which she proudly displays), but that part in the swamp annoyed me:

*fwik*

Huh. That was a weird noise.

All tripwire traps are set between trees of equal length. Just use first-person often, or just roll between suspicious trees. Once you have thermal gogs you can see them, but ironically you'll only find one or two tripwires after you get those. :-/

Seeing them isn't my problem. It just irritated me that she mentioned the traps after the fact. I was only on the lookout for leeches and crocodiles (or whatever it is that they call those things).

Also, one of the great things about MGS (aside from being able to simply run up behind a guy and quickly break his neck) is that the radar let you see guy that were south of your position, whereas now you have to hit the first person button every few steps to check.

Yea boogie, I agree.
If it were up to me, I'd increase the range of the Motion Dectector and Sonar.

Dumb things about this game... Thermal Goggles... mushrooms and herbs and claymore mines show up brightly. WTF? They don't produce heat. And yea the Radio convo about the Russian Glowcaps. Nice save Hideo.

The Croc Cap... yea annoying, only got it second time playing it. I used a walkthrough to tell me where it is.

The end yea... if you save and you come back. Either he sneaks up on you, or he's so old he dies. Really smart.

The sorrow... really smart concept. You pay for all the people you've killed.

I got all the boss camoflauges. Many are not worth getting. Like the fire from tranqulizing fury. It cuts flame damages by half. But the sneaking suit cuts everything by half. The fly is funny. Cold war made it very easy cause guards super hesitate to shoot you from the front. The hornet was funny... got bees to attack guards and i just watched it non stop. The spirit suit from sorrow is convienient for sneaking up on ppl now. The spider from fear sucked, ocelot's sucked... i had penatazamine or I'd just eat more food. The spider was fun for a few minutes. The moss was usefull for general camoflauge and regaining stamina. The snake was a boring suit, just stay down and you had good cover.

I can't be fucked to shoot all the little frogs for the 100% camoflague suit.

The tuxedo i won fitted the theme song lol.

Story? Loved it. But the end... hmmmm... Eva was like a lesser woman would break down or something. But I just thought that The Boss was pathetically loyal.
Big Boss should just get to keep outer heaven and kill everyone :(
The field of white flowers was beautiful. I though the theme song worked well there but not in the opening of Op:Snake Eater.

Ocelot, he's cooler when he's young because of how tremendously faggoty he is. It's super funny.

Somehow i suspect Raikov didn't do any work. He's just Volgin's toyboy. Like Caligula would allow his horse to be a member of the senate.

Yea and wow Ocelot has alot of connections.
It's funny how we know Liquid Owns him now.

Loved the game. Playing it thru again with all my new camo's and toys rule! It's really funny.
