Yowtch. Thank God our country doesn't ever have to worry about closely contested elections and possible fraud. That shit can get ugly.

It's really interesting to see how virtually the same situation we have here plays out in another country that hasn't become complacent and takes democracy as participatory action. We just have an oppostion that conceeds first chance they get and a public that doesn't like to see political confrontation. :/

They were a little less subtle over there, though. I don't have an official source to cite, but I heard that in parts of the country 99% of the voters supposedly showed up, and according to the first results, 96% of the votes went to Yanukovych. There was lots of really blatant fraud - Yushchenko voters getting harassed (this isn't just a rumor, it was caught on camera), full voting boxes being carried into voting booths, voting ballots literally being copied, Yanukovych voters getting driven from one district to another by bus to vote multiple times. It's pretty crazy. I imagine either Yanukovych's party was really worried of losing and pulled in an incredible effort to cheat, or they were just very disorganized and had groups of people everywhere committing fraud without direction. I mean, people might've believed a victory with 60% or 70%, but 96?

I've read reports about invisible ink, students being forced to show professors their ballots and employees being told to apply for absentee ballots to hand-in to their boss.

One of his aides are saying that the "KGB" poisoned his boss. Yikes.

Tell me, if the Cold War was WW III, and the War on Terrorism is WW IV, does that make this Cold War II, or WW V?

:(
