friday, october 8th 2004, out in the side yard ( we live in an uber corner-house) whacking on a tree with one of my many swords and bam, stabbed into my leg. hardly bled, hardly hurt, but i had to get stitches. :)

Because the tang is proportionately too small to endure the impact. Duh.

However, there is a medieval weapon depicted in the Maciejowskie Bible that resembles a sword, but would probably work to chop down trees. I've always seen it called a "chopper" or a "hacker", though.
