Looks interesting. More faithful to the book, and Johnny Depp is going to be great as Wonka.

I really don't think Johnny Depp looks right for the part, but at least he's great at playing eccentrics.

I quite liked the original. Especially when charley gives wonka back the sweet instead of giving it to the fake evil dude then gets to go in the insane elevator.

and in the ORIGINAL book, the oompa loompas were black pygmies, but were changed for the movie because of the blatant racism
anyway, the new movie looks good

Our teacher was talking about that, today. And, in Alice in Wonderland I THINK, they made fun of chinks through the whole book. :(

The oompa loompas in the new movie are all played by the Indian midget who scale doubled for one of the hobbits in LotR.
And I agree with Jixby and Spectre. I was sceptical when I saw the character presentation stills that were published a couple of months ago, but this looks great.

Grandpa Joe Looks Too old
In the book, Grandpa Joe is in his nineties.
its weird how the actor playing the grandpa is YOUNGER than the one playing the dad (christopher lee)
Christopher Lee is playing Wonka's father, not Charlie's.
Anyway, this looks great. Perfect blend of whimsical and creepy -- very typical Burton. :)

silly me
im just trying to remember the old movie, do we ever see the other kids alive after they get kicked out? or does wonka promise to bring them back to normal, but has them secretly murdered because they know to much of his candy secrets

Nope. We never see the other kids again after each sequence in which they are...removed... :/

I don't really think Depp will make the best Wonka, nothing will beat the original, he looks a little too odd in this movie.
That said, it's still going to be a must-see.

Also, am I being senile for not remembering Wonka's father ever being mentioned? Or is this for some kind of flashback sequence?

It's been a while, but I don't recall hearing about his father in the movie or the book.

thats becuase wonka's supposed to be F*CKING OLD god dammit >: wtf how the hell are they gonna handle the "i'm getting to old charlie you take over the factory ;_;" bit (SPOILERS LOL) i mean is he gonna be dying from AIDS or something b/c that would work cause he totally looks gay now

maybe the chocolate makes him look really young :lol
or making him old would make him look like a peodiphile or something (luring children into a magical factory using chocolate and such)

i never read the book but wonka doesnt look that old in the illustrations >_< and if wonkas too old to run a factory then how is he not too old to go into space with charlie in the sequal >:O

Sigh.
I agree with Willie that Johnny Depp looks too young.
But Wonka's not supposed to be all that old either. He's *getting* old, which is why now is the time to find a child to take over the factory. He can help bring the child up with reverence for the magic of the chocolate factory. So Willy Wonka's like 50 (only 10 years older than Johnny Depp). He can train the kid for fifteen years and retire at 65 confident that the factory is in good hands.
