So, I was working the other day, thinking about the DS and the capabilities. When I suddenly had a revalation.

Create RTS games for the DS. Wireless connection capabilities to other DS systems and the use of the stylus would allow a vast market in RTS games for the handy little portable.

Blizzard wants to make more console games, what they need to do is make StarCraft for the DS, and possibly remake Warcraft1 for the DS. Blizzard fans would eat it up. RTS fans would eat it up.
It would be a brilliant move. Way better then fucking games like the Urbz.

The screen of a DS is smaller than that of a PocketPC. Age of Empires was converted so that it would run on Pocket PC 2003. The size of the sprites in AoE are about the same size as those in Starcraft.

AoE was virtually unplayable on the PocketPC because everything was so fucking tiny. Therefore, any good RTS would be virtually unplayable on a handheld console because everything is so small.

:tear Too bad. It was a good idea, though.

Negative Chimp, I thought about this.

Sprite sizes are going to be small, yes. But if you put all game controls onto the bottom, with 1 pixel rep of what is happening. (i.e. colored dots with a slight shape) You can highlight the pixels, and what you highlight is selected on the upper screen. It would be enlarged.

Pixel map on the bottom, and a enlarged look/view on the top screen.

It is, but it ain't a REAL RTS, like Command and Conquer, or WarCraft, or Chess.

Playing off of the minimap would fucking suck for combat.

Hey if the original command and conquer was played from a 320x240 resolution, a good rts can be coded with all the extra stuff on the other screen.

It's not a matter of resolution, it's a matter of physical size. Your 320x240 monitor was 14 inches wide. :(

Ok, I tossed a crappy image together really fast.

The size is crap, I had to zoom it in. But it is akin to what I use to run C&C: Red Alert on with my crap PC long ago. And remember, the actual system is a bit bigger.

All the controls are on the bottom. I figure, if you hold down a shoulder button, the bottom screen will reflect the same image as the top screen, allowing you to select the troops needed. A real quick select and drop. When you let go, the screen returns to normal. Showing the map, the the controls, and what not. The 4 button interface on the front right is your map scroll controls. Allowing you to zoom around the map at will. The system might be a bit akward at first. But I believe it would become easier then the mouse system we use now. You will just lack the quick keys.

Damn, I didn't know it was that harsh of a attack. I'll ease off, so that your virgin eyes are spared from the evil that spews forth from my mouth.

They could put Text adventures on the DS by putting a keyboard on the touch screen. Playing Zork on the go would be awesome. :)
