View Full Version : ANIMAL WOES :(

So my mom just started the car and inadvertantly ground up one of 6 stray kitties. She was going to the grocery store. :(

This is the second time this has happened, the first time was when my brother was going somewhere and he snapped a kitty's back. I had the pleasure of seeing it's head right next to it's tail, and then hearing it meowl. And a few minutes later, after my dad got it out of the engine block, burying it. That was tons of fun. :(

This time, luckily, the animal died quick. I think. I went out and I saw a bloody hip bone three feet in front of the car, next to a furry, blood-covered leg.

On the bright side, it wasn't one of the cats that we had hand-raised, nor one that we had even named yet. It might actually be someone else's cat, for all we know.

As I type this mom's in the living room crying and dad just got home to pry this cat out. It, apparently got pretty mangled up, considering she had backed up about 5 feet.

So let me get this straight...these were strays that just wandered into your garage and curled up under your car and got run over?

No. We're a bunch of poor folks, without the luxury of a garage, so the cats huddle in/under the car sometimes because the car is still warm. This car hadn't gone anywhere for about 3 hours, so it was cold. Really, I think the cats are just so curious and like to get anywhere they can.

See, they didn't need to go there to get warm, because we had built this pimped out little cat-flat as part of a BoyScout service project thing. The other part to the project was to trap, neuter, and release the cats. They make this little colony thing and share the food. A feline harem.

The first cat to get ground up was a mere kitten, so it wasn't yet a big part of the group, and this second cat was a complete stranger, so it was huddling there because the others were occupying the house thing. They aren't strays, per se, they're all very friendly. Pop and Crackle (the original two kittens that we started the TNR thing with) are almost house-worthy. Snap (their sister, get it 'Snap Crackle Pop', shut up >: we couldn't think of anything) was the first to die.

The place where they died was actually in the engine. The first cat was in front, and got trapped under the main belt and got it's back snapped (poetic :(). In the process it fucked up the car, and cost us about $45. The second cat was sitting on top I guess, and got into the pistons or something. I'm not too savvy with engines. All I know was there was blood splattered everywhere. And limbs.

You should have taken pictures of the dead cats.

We backed over my aunt's cat when they lived on a farm. It decided to sleep under the rear wheel or something and it didn't even bother moving when we turned on the car. It's guts shot out of its ass. :O

Yeah, I'd probably fucking cry if I killed a bunch of cats, but come on, this is the stuff of monty python sketches. WISE UP

I cried the first time it happened, but that was only because it was still alive and I saw it. My brother, who turned the key, fucking collapsed on the floor and sobbed for a good 45 minutes.

Cats suck you guys :(

I guess that the only thing to do about it is to check the car every time before you start it to make sure that no cats are in or under it.

You could always honk the horn to get the cats out of your car and your tirebed. Always works with my cat. (Which, by the way, won't go away)

Yeah, we started doing that after we ground up the first one. This time I think the cat didn't have time to get out after mom banged. My four year old brother gets all excited about "banging for kitties" before we go anywhere. Thats also one of the things that I was consoling my mom with while she was sobbing in my shoulder. "You banged and everything, its not your fault"

The drama your family creates over the situation makes it funny.

One time I accidentally shut a kitten's neck into a door. It was dark outside and I was coming back inside from the laundry room and when I tried to close the door it wouldn't close so I assumed it was just laundry in the door and being lazy I just tried to shut harder. So when it wouldn't shut I opened the door and turned on the light and there's my kitten, choking on it's own blood. I cried all night. My brother called me a stupid cat killer and laughed at me for about a week.

Did you lift the hood first?

Nope. We don't do that. That might not be a bad idea, though. But when it's pouring rain and you're just going up to the 7-11 for some bread, it's a lot to do beforehand.

True, but it beats the trauma of accidentally killing a cat. I'd do it every time I went out, if it was my car. :/
