How come there isn't a thread about this show? I saw the second half of an episode on TV the other night, and it didn't seem very good.
Do we have any MacFarlane fanatics to defend the show?
A link to an existing topic about this will suffice if I just overlooked it.

It was kinda discussed in a recent family guy thread.

I ended up missing this show when it aired, but I fucking hate it nonetheless and here's why:

You're going to have to copy and paste since the url has some dumbass non-url characters in it.

I thought it was decent, but i do forsee three things in its future:
1. Mild success
2. Idle threat about how the son's friends resemble characters from other teen movies
3. Cancellation
It's entertaining, but there's no way it will last more than two seasons.

The first thing that struck me about American Dad is how much it was created just to be the second coming of Family Guy. All Seth did was put the characterizations and family placement into a Yahtzee cup and shake. Then he flipped a few of the family dynamic (Hey, the Stewie character is now an amorous goldfish! Brian is a Paul Lynde like alien! And now Chris has the glasses and angst of Meg while the daughter is considered stupid because she's a liberal! HA!) and now...
Well, a few parts of it made me laugh but the show on whole just has quite a few problems. With Family Guy coming back, the show needs to find its own identity before it's labeled a second-rate Family Guy clone. Which, essentially, it was made to be.

I completely agree. It's just like an alternate-universe family guy, and in that respect, when you watch it it feels like it's missing something. It definitely needs something else before it can become a good show. I just give it two seasons because it will take a good deal of americans a long-ass time to realize this, since we're living in a world where The Simple Life lasts FOUR FUCKING SEASONS.

I think this is gonna be Seth's Futurama to his Simpsons. It could end up being very entertaining, but that first episode was fairly flat in its jokes. It almost felt like Seth wanted to save all his good ideas for Family Guy's 4th season.

I thought some of the stuff was pretty funny, but I doubt I'll be as interested in the show as family guy. I don't know though, it won't start airing for another three months now so I won't judge at the moment.
btw, I could absolutely never get into Arrested Development for some reason, no matter how hard I tried and wanted to. It's like an impossible task for me.

No kidding. It's somehow less fun when it's interrupted by Ford commercials and previews of the next episode of American Idol.

Yeah, but Futurama was a completely differnt show then the simpsons in every way possible. The CG, the color scheme and characters, plots. Nothing was redundant. American Dad fucking looks like Family guy!
I also would like to say your an idiot for your remark, but I wont because its rude. Oh shit..

Seriously though it definitely is a hard show to get into, especially if you don't know any of the actors because then why would you care right guys? But I knew David Cross and he was the reason why I started watching the show (I kept putting it off until the second-to-last episode of the first season aired, and even though I had no idea what the hell was going on I still thought it was funny :()
In conclusion watch it anyway numbskulls >:

Cross' standup is pretty funny.
I'll give it another shot, might just be one of those second-watch things for me...
