I'm trying to buy my buddy a birthday present and he's very hard to shop for. Anyone know some good war games? I know he already has a lot of the popular ones, I'm looking for something either obscure and good or new and good.

I second Silent Storm. It is an awesome game, but a lot of people tend to have technical problems with it.

Nival software also makes other wargames that I hear are pretty decent. Most of them are world war II oriented though.

Cool, I will look into Silent Storm.

His favorite game is C&C:Generals. I did a search for games like that and a game called "Act of War" came up, has anyone heard anything about it? It looks really good to me, but I don't really know much about RTS games. Here's a link:

I think he meant war-war games, not fun-entertaining-space shooter-war games.

Oh crap, you're right. IT comes out before his birthday though - i think. But there's a demo out.... it looks kinda fun, anyone play it?

I'd d/l it but I don't have a gamespot membership.... :P

Yeah, he's pretty hardcore into war-war games, like RTS war games. Kinda a snobby nerd...

I got a list going that I am gonna try and check against what he has this week. I have to figure out exactly what he's into. I think just any RTS war stuff.

I'm thinking about Act of War, too, because I know he doesn't have it yet. I found the demo for Act of War on the Atari website, but my computer is not hi spec enough to play it. Anyone know if it's something a hardcore RTS gamer would like?

I don't think he has Silent Storm either, so I might get him both.

As the_dudefather said Rise of Nations.

If he wants a really fucking deep war game get him Hearts of Iron 2

If you mean FPS war games, then Medal of Honor Allied/Pacific Assualt (or Halo :() are musts. But is you mean RTS war games, then you should go with a cool little title by the name of Warzone 2100.

Yeah, I kinda want something I'd have to pay for because it's a gift. He'd know if I didn't pay for it because he's into those kinda games enough to realize. Besides he's having a big nerdy birthday party, so I need something I can wrap up and give to him.

I can dig it. I dont have a job so I never have money to buy my friends stuff. They get me stuff for my birthday and I feel so shitty. I don't deserve friends.

Hey now, just cuz you don't have money doesn't mean you don't deserve friends. If they get you stuff it must mean you deserve them. Anyway, yeah, I don't usually give gifts for any special occasion, only if I see something that someone would really really like. This is the first time in a while I've had to get a present on a schedule.
