I like it, but it seems that the floor and door are on a different plane than everything else.

Sweet, sweet pixel art. One day the art world will acknowledge it.

Wow, that's fuckin' good, man. The only real complaint i have is that his hair seems to start nowhere. Is it a mohawk in the middle, or just grows on the other side of his head? It looks to me like there's no base of the hairline where there ought to be just a little in our view.

Chojin, if you played any REAL arcade games besides that DDR faggy shit, you'd know that in FF type games, the background prespective is mostly a constant 45 degrees to the right, as in the slash: " / " whereas the objects are at any prespective the gameplay warrants, but usually head on two point prespective, like so: " | | "
Thanks guys, and FS, to what you said, it's true that 'real' artists look at pixel art and say "oh, how cute, you did this dot by dot? Goodie, maybe soon enough you'll grow up to fingerpainting, eh?" and I don't think it'll ever change. The problem is that half of the 1337ness in pixel art is keeping it 'oldskool' with the technical aspects of it, like colour count and whatnot. If you say that "hey, I used 23 shades for this whole thing. you could put that in a master system, you know. The master system was around in the late 80s. Cool, eh?" he's not gonna care at all. It's like saying you drew that amazing coal piece using your toes. It's a gimmick to them.
So, I don't see anyone ever giving credit to pixel art, even if it's the closest thing to the awe friscos of the romans, as long as it's tied to technobabble and, let's face it, computer games.

Doesn't look like it to me in that FF screenshot above. :/

Helm,
I think it looks pretty good, but it definitely doesn't remind me of the Final Fight style. I do think a few of the things in the picture look a little awkward, perhaps it's just the way they're drawn or the angle. Any chance you can scale it up about 200% so I can see a more detailed version of it?

why do you see the whole top of the furnace thing as from above but not the table (rounder) when the furnace is in the back?
And the guy is very shiny - his skin. The furnace is correct to be shiny since it would be metal, but the guy shouldn't be shiny.

If you want to inspect it, download it and zoom in on whatever paint program you use. I have limited webspace, and 640x480 images are a pain, esp. since the method I suggest doesn't cost me anything, and takes you about 20 seconds to use.

The stove perspective thing is a correct crit. I don't know what I was thinking. I'll edit it later. As to the shiny skin. I was suggesting humidity. I tried to do oily skin. Besides, there's a technical reason for it. I didn't have many skin shades to use for downshading, so instead I had to push up the detail on the highlighting, otherwise the dude would look flat.
Rez: Yes?
Thanks for the c&c, Rez, Mock, and Mock's imaginary friend.

i was trying to give an explanation as to why the guy looked shiny...
but i do like it. not something i would since it looks like it requires drawing skills, which i'm an unrepentant failure at. that's why i take photos.

What is it for? It is good. You should make GBA games.

I like it too, but to me the room does seem a little off perspective or on different planes as well.
The shading is really good though considering the limited palette.
JIN* also tried pixel art, well video game sprites anyway.
Here is a few Sprites I did for a game my friend made for some computers class.
At the time i was extremely into Wolfenstein and decided to make them all based on a nazi theme (With a camo by Psycho Mantis :love )
The game had no animation and only one frame for each direction so it was especially hard to come up with anything that looked animated in the game but i am pretty happy the way these turned out.
