Is the search function working? I don't know.

My Xbox says that any game I put in there is 'dirty or damaged' even if it is new. I am guessing this is a laser or disc drive thingy problem.

Is there an easy way to fix this? Has anyone had similar problems?

Yes, and we're not the only ones.

There's actually group of angered xbox owners trying to file a class-action lawsuit against microsoft about this, and if they win, we either get money or new xboxes (maybe even a free xbox 2 :lol)

But yeah, about everyone I know has this problem, just like the PS2 breaking.

I've never had this problem with either of my xbox's. Both of which are in a damp basement, and get a lot of use.

It depends on which model version you got. I got mine about a year and a half ago new, and it is barely able to play anything. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But when it does work it only works for so long before it finds my flawless disk unworthy of play. The problem only seems to get worse as time goes on.
If I can't get it fixed I am ordering a new xbox disk drive.

It depends on which model version you got. Thats only half right. It depends on the model of the Disk Drive (I can't remember what they are) bu there are three brands and one is prone to breaking like a whore, (These are the ones used at firstlaunch and the following year. I have one of the older drives and mine has never once given me troubles. The only sure fire way to correct this is to buy a new disk drive.

While we're on the topic of xbox problems, what's the deal with those smaller cords on the end of the controller cords? Do they do anything, aside from detaching and forcing you to buy a new one when you can't find it again?

It was designed for when those really huge controllers were in dominance, and people would keep getting pissed because they couldn't reach the buttons. After a game over you could throw your controller without the system coming with it, so that the controller could obtain higher velocity and cause more damage.

it's actually a pretty good idea and it was made so that if someone tripped on the cord the controller would disconnect instead of sending the system crashing to the floor.

on the other hand, the xbox weighs more than me, so that wouldn't really be an issue anyway

Theres actually a little spot in the Manual that comes with the Xbox that tells you NOT to put it on anything too high for risk of falling injury.

Thats if the Power Cord for the Xbox was built before October 2003. Only 30 something have set fire. those that did cause significantly minor damage.

WTF And PC's are much better? Do you have to worry about a consoles framerate dropping due to hardware issues, or a Penis enlargement ad pop up and pull you out of your game? Well for hazards there the same but picture this ass clown. Why would ANYONE spend $3000 to play a few games? Thats the most rediculous thing Ive heard in my short years. Besides, consoles are where Vodeogames first took roots and had a name written for themselves. Its only since the dawn of Visionaries Such as Valve and ID have taken the PC stand has PC's gaming popularity really been Increased. Did any of you geniuses ever think of calling Microsoft, reporting the read problem, and seeing if they'd replace your Xbox's dvd drive? Because something tells me that they will.

All of the consoles' first iterations have problems like this, the PS2 actually moreso if you play DVDs or stand it on its side (for some reason; my friend worked in an import store that took outsourcing work for fixing broken consoles and pretty much every broken PS2 unit that had a malfunctioning laser was kept on its side)

i had to replace my dvd drive on my xbox but it was relatively painless since i work with pcs. of course, ordering from thellamma.com was irritating and they're extremely rude there. the dickhead that i was having email correspondence with once threatened to cancel the order and then literally a year after i got the drive from them i got an email with him basically stating i was an idiot or something (i imagine my email from a year ago got mixed up or something?)
