Know of any good ones? I'm currently researching a bunch of them, i wanna know if there are any bands i should know about. I just finished off the Lexicon Devil book, and it was great, and got me interested in looking up west-coast punk bands. I have The Germs' MIA album (the live version of Sex Boy fucking rules) and some stuff by The Descendents, The Screamers, The Circle Jerks, and X. I currently cannot find anything by The Plunger Sisters, The Dickies, Middle Class, Black Randy, or F-Word. I also have an Angry Samoans album, but i'm not sure when thay showed up. Got any other suggestions from this timeframe? Or any American punk from anywhere in the 80's?

Descendents are great, All was a little later with the same members. Minor Threat, The Vandals, I like a lot of the more hardcore punk bands like Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies, H2O. A lot of the west coast ska bands are good too, like early Goldfinger, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Operation Ivy

I've already got Black Flag (probably one of my favorite hardcore bands) and All, but i don't like Bad Religion at all, nor do i like The Vandals. I despise Suicidal Tendencies, H2O are a little too corny for me, and there's nothing in Ska for me at all. I don't have any Minor Threat since i've dodged them for so long, but they're a good suggestion right now. Thanks.

Yeah, they were NY's hardcore band, i believe. But i asked for anything from 75-85, pretty much. I've got some Dead Milkmen stuff too, but i dunno how old they are. Likely early eighties.

7 seconds are pretty good. Entertaining enough, anyway. Still hunting for TSOL and Bad Brains.

Wipers - Youth of America's a classic. Melvins do a good cover of the title track.

Wipers? I'll look for 'em.

I got some Dickies and some Screamers stuff. The Dickies fucking rule, as expected. i love the goofy-ass vocals. I got some Screamers stuff, too. i didn't know they had a keyboardist, i didn't even think punk rock bands back in the day used 'em :O. I didn't like the few Middle Class tracks i picked up, they were a little TOO generic.

I think the only way to get ahold of Youth of America is to buy the 3 CD box set. It's a pretty good deal - 3 albums plus lotsa bonus tracks for $24 and the other albums are definitely worth owning.

They're east coast but I guess he requested all around later on, so nvm.

And I didn't know H20 were from the 80s. I thought they formed in the early 90's or so.

Anyways, some 80's american punk bands I can think of:

Adolescents (LA)
DRI (TX then moved to SF. Later stuff is cheesy crossover but hey, they almost invented the blastbeat)
Zero Boys (forgot where they came from)
Battalion of Saints (somewhere in CA. Only 1/5 of the original members are still alive!)
Crucifix (somewhere in CA)
Poison Idea (forgot where)
Reagan Youth (somewhere)
RKL (Rich Kids on LSD) (LA, I think)
No Trend
Larm
Flipper
Negative Approach
Negative FX
Necros
SS Decontrol

ok i'm done

What kind of fucktard says the Bosstones are a great West Coast Ska band? Sweet jesus.

I saw 7 Seconds at Warped like 7 years ago on the Bill Beef Jerky stage or something. It wasn't even a fucking stage. It was flat bed trailer with a poster hanging behind it. Anyway, there were like 7 kids there while they played their set. Apparently they had a hard time competing with the likes of Eminem. Hooray for Warped.

Oh yeah, and H20 sucks.

I was like 6 during the first wave of So Cal punk rockers so Im fond of the second coming with the likes of the Vandals, Pennywise, Guttermouth, etc. Im not old enough to claim "hardcore" 80s roots. And for the record, Vodoo Glow Skulls are the best West Coast Ska band ever, probably the best ska band period because ska blows.

I forgot about Crime. Probably the first California punk band to record (1976).
