He'd been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer in 2002.

If you are really brilliant and talented at your job, can you still be a scum-bag? ... a scum-bag that likes a challenge, I mean.

Overwhelming purpose of defensive counsel? To defend in particular cause or to serve as a foil to the prosecution in maintaining a system of "checks and balances" which insure justice, in its general sense, is served?
