Nintendo, which mostly ignored the Net with GameCube, also is catching up with the online wave. Revolution will offer broadband access to a free Internet-based player matching service, similar to Xbox Live, that also will have downloadable versions of nearly every Nintendo game — from arcade classic Donkey Kong through current titles such as Mario Sunshine. (Nintendo hasn't decided whether downloading will be free.)

Agree with Nintendo here. When you talking about a game system that is 10x-30x better then the original, we also talking about a longer development stage, more chances for mistakes and delays and all that hubbub.

It also looks sleeker then the X-Box and Sony systems.

I hope they don't charge retarded prices for NES games. If they're willing to sell games like Metroid and Castlevania on the GBA for 20 fucking dollars I wouldn't doubt it.

Does it use regular sized CDs or minidiscs like the GC?

FS
May 17th, 2005, 02:09 PM
Indeed, I own a Gamecube, but Nintendo still has been squeezing pennies out of every little thing they can for the past years.

They must be regular size CDs. If they're mini CDs, that thing would be small enough to choke 3-year olds with.

Is it just the way the pictures were taken, or does it slope down towards the back? weird.

edit: Oh, I just saw the picture posted in the other thread:

http://www.eurogamer.net/assets/articles/a59151/ss_preview_Image4.jpg

I think it's regular sized CDs, but that thing must be the size of a discman.

Emu
May 17th, 2005, 02:23 PM
Does it still read gamecube games, I wonder? It looks like there's a smaller disc slot on the bottom.

I think that may be for memory cards.

BUT WHAT DO THE CONTROLLERS LOOK LIKE

if they're anything like gamecube's then i'm done.

That's the only thing that kept me from keeping my Gamecube. I tried and tried and tried to acclimate myself to the controller but it never worked.

# Sophisticated Design. The new console is approximately the size of three standard DVD cases stacked together, and it was displayed in a variety of prototype colors at E3. The console will come with a sleek silver stand allowing it to be displayed vertically or horizontally.
# Backward Compatibility. Revolution will play all of your favorite Nintendo GameCube games. An innovative self-loading media bay will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. You can also equip a small, self-contained attachment to play movies and other DVD content.
# Huge Historic Library. Revolution will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
# Big Names. Nintendo announced that new franchise properties will be added to current super-star franchises including Mario, Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong and Metroid.
# Wi-Fi Freedom. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment using Nintendo's newly announced wireless gaming service, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

so you have to buy a seperate DVD adapter?

i thought i'd read some N spokesman said they weren't planning on dvd support for the next nintendo offering. pretty smart of them to fire whoever said that.

Also, the Gamecube has the best controller out of any system ever (besides the NES)

How are you supposed to download games? Does the Revolution have any sort of built-in storage device? Because it really don't look like it.

The system looks really bland, in my opinion. Just a small black brick. It kind of makes me wonder if Nintendo's focus was on trying to make the system as small as possible at the expense of using better hardware and additional features. The DVD adapter just further cements this thought in my head.

And the Gamecube is undeniably the worst controller ever made. And I mean ever. It was voted on by some people and they said it sucked. They also said Emu needs to stop being retarded, I heard.

UNGH, MY HEART

Seriously though, I love the GC controller. I guess it's all just a matter of opinion. :pac

This is easily the sleekest looking next-gen system so far. DVD support is irrelevant. It was a huge factor last time around, but now who doesn't have a DVD player? It's not worth the added retail cost imo. What really sounds too good to be true is this 'access to historic game library' business. I can't see Nintendo offerring free downloads to emulate their old console games. I'm sure it's gonna be some pay-per-use or "X-Box Live" type monthly fee. I thought the Gamecube and N64 were both complete jokes. This looks promising.

Probably using Wi-Fi.

Great, now Nintendo's in the vertical trend. :( Besides that the system looks and sounds killer, hopefully Reggie can put things back in order.

Nintendo wouldn't render their controller in a 3D modelling program. They'd whip out the real thing and beat you with it.

bigtimecow

well, it may be real, but maybe a special controller for flying games or something. like the steering wheel for racing games.

but either way it sucks.

I meant where are you downloading the games TO.

And the PS3 can be placed vertically or horizontally. So if you don't like systems that stand upright, the PS3 is for j00!

Don't give Reggie too much credit. He tells it like it is, but with a sugar-coated promise of good things. Like a doctor who uses a hand puppet to tell a kid their parents drowned in a fire.

Every single PS2 owner who didn't buy a DVD player, but then watched in horror as the Disc Read Error slowly consumed their PS2.

So I need a new DVD player and a new PS2. Brilliant marketing on their part, IMO. :(

Inside, the system will feature 512MB of onboard flash memory, and feature SD memory card slots for expandability

And I would just like to add that I also saw no problems with the gamecube controller's design

Shigeru Miyamoto: [Laughs] You're doubting me, aren't you? I can see that you're over there mistrusting my word. I understand. [Laughs]

Of course. It's set in stone. It has been determined. I'd love to show it to you. I'd love to be able to show you the features of the Revolution controller and tell you about them. However, unfortunately if we do that too early those ideas would be stolen. We know that from past history. Analog stick. Boom - gone. Rumble Pak. We bring it out and everybody has to have rumble. We got the wireless out first and now there's wireless everywhere. So we have to keep it under wraps.

FUCK

It's gasoline powered?
It's got a laser beam?
It plays MP3's?
You can put your weed in there?
It's actually just a leftover NES controller?
It's a SUPERJOY 4000?
The controller has AI?
It looks like genitals?
It's solar powered?
It has 46 buttons?
It responds to voice commands?
There IS NO controller, the games are controlled by your mind?
The controller looks like a pair of scissors?

JUST TELL US ALREADY!

The Revolution is going to be able to play NES, SNES, and N64 games. Unless Nintendo plans on having players use the GameCube controller to play these, the Revolution will have to have an A button, B button, R and L buttons, an analog control stick and a control pad, s Z button, and buttons to match the four C buttons. Ah, and a start and select button. Of course, Nintendo could just re-program all the games to make them work with a new controller, but it would cost less to make a default controller for the Revolution.

I really wouldn't put it past Nintendo to make players buy a GCN controller to play the old games, though.

Emu
Jul 5th, 2005, 02:45 PM
Why buy a GCN controller? Why not just make a whole new controller that you have to buy to play old games?
