About 6 months of weight-lifting, though I had been doing calisthenics for a loooong time before that.
In that 6 months, I've gone from 145 to about 175.
I'm eating a boatload of protein. Meat, Kashi Go Lean Crunch, high-protein & fiber cereal bars, etc, plus a recovery shake. I probably eat around 4,000 calories a day.
Keep in mind that some of that is water, plus muscle memory (I'm sure I lost some lean mass when I dropped down from 220 lbs of lard). I have no illusion that I've gained no fat either, though my overall appearance is leaner.

MUSCLE mass, not just LEAN mass.

OAO, don't tell me stuff about metal, ok? Thanks.
math rock comes from punk attitude and progressive rock geekness and chops. There is no such thing as 'math metal' unless you're being very generous with genre descriptions. Most of that stuff is either spastic grindcore, or progressive metal. When there's odd time, it doesn't make it 'math' just like that. The original james bond theme is in 7/4 time, does that make it OMGZ MATH ROCK LET'S MOSH? Math rock is about people actually counting their beats because otherwise due to synchopation, polyrhythmics and stop-starts, it's almost impossible to keep in sync. The actual number of math bands that are deserving of the name are very very few. not because OMG math rock is awesome dude, but because not many people actually have to count. Listen to Don Caballero or something

Fact: Say a novice starts to work out. In all but a very small percentage of people, weight will be gained. This is especially true in those that do not supplement a cardiovascular/aerobic workout and proper diet in addition to weightlifting regimine. While it's true that weightlifting will cause you to lose some amount of weight in fat, that is offset by the fact that muscle is more dense than fat. I'm talking about "lean muscle", in your words, although I don't from where you dervie your terminology. You don't gain or lose fat in corollation to muscle gain/loss. Let's take the equation "mass = density X volume", for instance. Yes, you will lose some fat, but it is harder to break down than muscle is to build up. So what are we left with? A moderate loss of high volume, low density fat will equal slow loss fat mass. Thus, due to fat's low density, not a whole lot of weight/mass will be lost even though it looks deceivingly like it has since a large volume was lost. A respectively higher gain in both muscle density and volume happens rather quickly and masks the remaining fat subtlely. Thus you have gained respectively more muscle mass than you think and have loss respectively less fat mass than you think. In other words, I think that your theory that all the wieght you've gained recently is completely in muscle (or "lean muscle" :rolleyes ) is full of shit. You still got a long ways to go, fatty.

water,
You would lose water weight, especially with aerobic exercise. Water weight lost/gained is dynamic and (pardon the terminology) fluid. Weight gained or lost in this area is not consistent and should not really be considered in overall fitness program. What I'm saying is that one should not look at water weight with the impression that "Hey, I've lost all this water weight. I'm going to avoid water intake." Most people do not intake enough water. Indeed, it makes up 70%+ of our physiological make-up.
organ expansion,
Possibly, but very nominal. I think the biggest organ expansion would be the erection YOU get flexing in the mirror.
bone structure, etc.
As you are still adolescent, this may contribute in a nominal way although it is, again, be nominal at best and does not correlate to weight training so much as the proper nutrients/minerals ... i.e. calcium in particular.
2) You DON'T lose fat from weight lifting. Because you have to be in a calorie surplus for muscle to grow, you GAIN it.
Calorie surplus = fat? You're all set.

YOUR BODY IS 70% + LBS IN FRIGGIN WATER WEIGHT! It may change in it's distribution but is immaterial in the scheme of permanent weight loss. The overall percentage is within a few percentage points over a broad spectrum of body types ... excluding those at the extreme ends of the spectrum, of course.
And as far as your bone growth goes, I have something that I'd like you to consider in light of the excess of steroid use in pro sports. This is not intended to turn your attitude. Just a thought:
Many athlete who abuse steroids often have injuries involving their bones and connective tissue. Why is that? Because the muscle is growing at a rate that far excells any improvement in the bones, tendons and ligaments. I.E. bone growth does not even come close to muscle growth even in non-steroid development.
P.S. Even though I don't know what the hell you're going on about half the time, I find your viewpoint vital and refreshing. More about.

Kelly, I'm not talking about losing weight. If you're gaining weight from muscle, you're going to have to gain water weight too in order to keep the percentage of water the same in your body.

I weigh 180 pounds, stand 6 foot, (hilarious that you weight the same btw) and I rest completely certain I have at least twice the "lean muscle mass" you possess. People on this board who have seen my pictures can testify to this. I've been lifting weights and eating a high protein diet for roughly 5 years now. I gain about 4 pounds of "lean muscle" a year, on a good year. To gain anymore as a matter of permanence in any non-supplemental healthy fashion is nearly impossible (despite what websites and MUSCLE ABS WEEKLY will say). Noone will ever be impressed about your personal athletics or your diet regimen so stop trying to flaunt either, it just makes you appear desperate to hear results before you achieve them. Alot of people consider excersise a facet of their life and typically the people who talk about it as if it were a novelty to be displayed end up giving it up or developing eating disorders. Making you a raging douche bag in either case.

Whatever dude. I guess the fact that I read what the bodybuilders say on the top forum for it in the world has no merit...

Correct, you are going to gain some weight in conditioning as I explained. Just about every tissue in the body has some water content (the percentage varies with the tissue in question) but you tend to compartmentalize water as a separate entity while pigeon-holing it all as "lean muscle". When you originally said that I gained x amount of lean muscle and lumped organ growth, bone growth, water wieght, ect. into the fray, you were simply incorrect. I guarantee you that growth in some of the areas you mentioned is nominal. The majority of weight gain came from a combination of gaining muscle mass while not losing fat mass at the same rate. That's where aerobic exercise comes into play. It is possible to keep one's weight fairly close to what they started with before conditioning with the proper regimine and actually gain a low bodyfat percentage in the bargain.

You all have spent quite some time analyzing OAO. If you didn't care about him...you wouldn't have bothered.
OAO...it's all out of love man...all out of love! :)
It's so great that once in awhile Lotida gets off her Sybian machine to tell us that "OH JUST FUCK EM ALREADY :rolleyes" or some variation or love whenever someone argues with another. It's a great responsibility.
Oh I'm flattered you thought of me! ;)

You're way too young for me dear.
Please keep posting though. I enjoy reading all the posts from everyone telling you what a loser you are. Such a loser, they are compelled to type paragraphs and paragraphs analyzing you. It's quite comical! Keep up the good work!! :)
