View Full Version : New so called rock.

I've been listenig to the radio lately and I'm appauled at what people are calling "rock" these days. Now, I'm 19 and grew up listening to Pearl Jam, STP, Greenday, Korn, Metallica, and the like. So I'm not supprised to have a hard time connecting with newer music. But When I turn on my local rock station, I atleast expect to hear GUITARS! For shit's sake, this new crap is all weird sounds and guys singing like their lips are falling off and they have banana's up their asses. No melody, no riffs, nothing! Rock has died in my opinion. I guess the little douches with the afros and "shaggy" hair have taken it from me. Now I know how my dad feels. I'm gonna go cry and listen to Nirvana.

Rock and metal are never dead. You just don't know where to look. Please feel free to explore the past history of Rock and Roll, like Thin Lizzy.

Rock being known as "guitar music" is one of the most retarded cliches ever.

There are many things wrong with what you just said. I'll outline them for you now.
1) Rongi's taste in music is infintely better than yours. That's a fact of life.
2. The very fact that you used the word "pwn" in any serious sense makes you as big a douche as anyone else on the internet.
C: You Only Capitalize The First Letter Of Each New Sentence, Not Each New Word, Twit.
IV- If you're sick of hearing shitty Green Day, turn on a classic rock station or something. Every city in America has at least one of these.

:/ We don' t even have rock stations over here. If we're lucky they play Bon Jovi. :/
Somehow a miracle occured and Radio 1 actually broadcast Iron Maiden from Reading after decades of refusing to play it. But thats a rare occurance. We have a program called "Top of the Pops" where people pretend to sing and prance around attempting to dance. The people there have to dance or they get thrown out.

I could go into a long rant about the UK Radio Authority being against rock &/or independent stations, but I won't because I moved to New Zealand to get away from those bastards. >:

Anyway, back to the reason this thread exists.
Anyone who want to see proof that rock and roll is dead needs only to listen to a segment of that pussy-ass shit Tommy Lee just cranked out his hepatitis-laden ass. I would make a comment on how the other members of Motley Crue should kick his ass, but they weren't exactly a high point in rock history, either. Limp-wristed fag-fights are never entertaining.

There is e music out there today but there always has been and always will be, sadly it tes the charts but oh ing well.
I'm sick of 13 year old s who sit around and complain about how they wish they could have been born in the 60's or whatever, ("omg led zepplin nd pink floid rawk on LOL") disgrace.
Now, Pink Floyd is my favorite band hands down, but there is still some amazing music out there today. Just as much if not more than back in the day. now Motley Crue does and always has sucked if you ask me.

What?
Anyway... The thing that that I don't understand is why there is no real music anymore. Listen to the radio a little bit... hear what I mean? It's all totally linear and lifeless. They get a metronome going in the studio, get all the instruments playing one after another, and it turns out 100% processed and perfect, with no mistakes left uncovered by digital magic. If they would try to loosen up the recording process a little bit instead of keeping everything totally under control, the music would actually sound better. I'm sure there is some great underground music out there, and the fact that it's not what's popular is exactly why i'm pissed.
Of course, my argument holds no water if you want to talk about live performance...

You're right, but i wouldn't consider the radio a decent representation of the modern music scene. Good music exists, but more often than not it isn't on the radio.
It all sort of depends on what you like.
I personally can't stand a damn thing on the radio most of the time, but i listen to more new bands than old.

There is very little rock I from the last twenty years I like anymore. All of the stuff I used to like sounds like shit now.
But there is still good music coming out today, and you just have to look for it and not focus on all the garbage. Every generation has tons of terrible music in the mainstream for a while before it gets forgotten.
You are complaining about nothing.

I agree that every generation has had it's share of shitty commercial music, but also it seems to be hard to be coming by fresh ideas that work. I used to complain that no one does any guitar solos or any straight-out rock riffs, and then I hear bands like Jet and realize that rock revival bands and or bands trying to sound retro are not saving music, but are just turning it into a reclycled, watered-down cliche. That and it pisses me off that it has made the retro look "trendy", because know everyone else has longer hair and rock t-shirts, which had been unpopular when I had that look
