View Full Version : What's the best Genesis (and Game Boy Color) emulator?

I finally decided to get off my ass and download some of my old Genesis games for ease. I tried Xega, but it would just crash every time I tried to open it. So I've been using Gens, but it could be a bit better.

I don't see a lot of options (the two mentioned, and one for DOS), so I was just wondering if you guys knew of any others that you were happy with.

Also, any recommendations on an emulator that plays both Game Boy and Game Boy Color games? Or at least an emulator for each?

Then maybe something's fucked with my copy. When I open it, my screen flickers (what happens when I play games in fullscreen). Then my screen reverts to normal, and a small window for Gens opens, which I can resize.

When I'm done, I close out Gens, and all my icons are mixed up. For example, a save file will have a WMP icon. I have to refresh to fix everything.

Not a big deal at all, really. Just wondering if something was fucked.

No, it does that to me, too. I don't know why.

The same screen flicker happens for me too, but I have it set where it flickers then goes straight to full screen. After closing out of it, none of my icons are switched around.

Maybe you should ask goons. :/

gens does something silly when it boots up, it is true. It has to do with checking your current screen resolution, I think. It forces 320x240 for half a second, hence the messed up icons.

Do you feel betrayed by my choice to visit more than one forum or something?

Anyway, I guess it's good to know that Gens is doing the same thing for everyone. Aside from that, I can't say I've had any problems.

Now I just need to find a GB/GBC emulator.

I was under the impression that vboy for the gba plays gb/gbc games.

Gens is definitely the best, but if you're used to it you might as well just get GensPlus. It's just an upgraded version of the original but it's got a few nice new features.

I can't find this. And I really didn't want something that emulated GBA too (just because). I just want GB/GBC.

I'm downloading and trying BGB and KiGB. On Zophar, they're the only two emulators updated as recent as this year, and the comments make them sound like the ideal choices, supporting everything I'm probably looking for.

If anyone has comments on these two, or any others worth checking out, speak up.
