View Full Version : I GOTS ME A JOB

After having graduated from college two years ago, I have finally secured a permanent job, even if I'm only going to be working no more than 32 hours a week right now. I'm working at a supermarket, starting as a cashier for $7.50 an hour. It's not the most desirable job, but this company was recently voted #1 in some major publication in terms of the treatment of its workers. They've promised that I'll have a raise within six months.
I was kind of panicky at first. I've reflected on the fact that I've started and nearly completed a documentary based on the sheer fact that I've been broke and have had nothing to lose. Soon it will be time to submit it to film festivals. I was wondering if I'm going to get lazy about the film. I really hope that if anything, it will give me more focus, and soften the blow incase the movie doesn't go anywhere. Having a real schedule again is going to take a lot of getting used to.
Why do I have such mixed feelings about this?

Well, it doesn't matter how much you make. As long as you are comfortable and have a job.. After all, we all move up someday and make better for ourselves.
And congratulations MM (^^)

If anything Miss M, you will be MORE motivated to do other stuff now, as your free time will be that much more precious.

A physics major, an engineering major, and a liberal arts major meet at a restaurant. The physics major looks at his drink and thinks about the forces acting on it and the diffusion of light through it. The engineering major does a dimensional analysis on the cup, and looks at the fluid motion inside. The liberal arts major asks, "Would you like fries with that?" ;)

If you got that job two years ago, you'd have had four raises by now.

stockers get paid less or the same as cashiers. if you have any desire to stay with the company for a while, aim for PRODUCE MANAGER. i worked in produce at an IGA for a semester and i cannot stress enough how superior PRODUCE is to the rest of the supermarket in terms of enjoyable work. course, i walked off the job and pissed off the store manager, but that's what the fucker got for repeatedly scheduling me to cover for grocery stockers during closing shift like i was some high school fuckwit who could just blow off studying and homework for 6 bucks an hour.
i'm sure deli and bakery are lovely too, but PRODUCE >>> ALL.

Meat and fish counter is the worst (in terms of half decent supermarket jobs). My mate used to work there and always smelled rather fishy.
But you do learn how to butcher meat 'n' shit so it might be useful in later life.

Produce is indeed the best job in a supermarket. Aside from the occasional rotten thing, it's pretty clean.

I'm rather shocked that, having spent a good five years on this website, Mod would still solicit advice from this lot.

You know, sspad, I always pictured you as a bruce willis. I don't know if you had an avatar of bruce willis or one that looked like him besides that, but you should get a picture of bruce willis's character from sin city. Maybe the part where he rips his "Weapon" out.
