I just got a P.C. of my own. Problem is, it's a Pentium 2, with a clockspeed of about 230 MHz and 288 Meg of RAM. So I'm looking for some old P.C. titles that I haven't been able to enjoy until I got my own.

Any suggestions?

I mention diablo because it's fun for 10 minutes, and it runs on like 200 mhz 8 mb ram and < 8 mb ram video card.

I think that the original Unreal Tournament should work on your PC. The system requirements seem right and the Demo has net play. Its free and it should work on almost any computer.

On the Demo Of UT, there is a Newbie server, and with the constant stream of new players, you can fight people in your own class. Except for those jackasses who are virtual masters and join Newbie games so they can act like big men in front of their friends.

Heretic 2 is the Quake 2 engine, I believe. It may still run on a Pentium 2. Not entirely sure.

Don't forget all of the cool platformers like Commander Keen for that day. ^.^

Starcraft runs great on my P.C. Also found out that you can download the marathon trilogy for free. Everything works, except there's no color when I'm playing the game. I've also heard that Sam and Max hit the road is pretty good too.

The Fifth Man
Aug 11th, 2005, 05:01 AM
Sam & Max Hit The Road is funny as hell. It comes on the demo cd for Armed and Dangerous, also by LucasArts.

There's some other graphical adventure games that are cool. If you're really into them, you HAVE to check out the Myst series (Myst, Riven, Exile...), 'course you have to have the patience of Job to make any progress in them. Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster is cool, too (it's got Tim Curry!). And good luck finding Day of the Tentacle. Or The Dig.

Dungeon Keeper is the shit.

Sadly, Dungeon Keeper 2 does not like WinXP too much and the sound acts really fruity, especially the voiceover. Poop.

Two good, funny, old school puzzlers that you might want to track down are The Space Bar and Bad Mojo.

In The Space Bar you're a detective trying to catch a shapeshifting murderer in a sci-fi bar full of aliens. It's pretty humorous throughout.

Bad Mojo is more dark in it's humor. You're a scientist transformed (IIRC, from a necklace...?) into a cockroach, trying to get back to your original form.

Both games are excellent.

Mad Melvin

Yes, get System Shock 2. Forgot about that one. Truly a great game, altough I like the first Deus Ex better.

The Fifth Man
Aug 14th, 2005, 12:41 AM
Bad Mojo was really creepy. That gigantic dead rat was a real dead rat. You find it in, like, the second screen. Scared the shit outta me. Awesome seeing the world from a roach's perspective.

Another good puzzle game is the 7th Guest. The puzzles are infuriating, but your confidence boosts two levels when you solve one. I heard the 11th Hour sucked though.

I used to hack my level in Diablo so I could attack level one players and tell people what they had in their inventory, which freaked out one person. However, I have to agree that it got boring after a while.

:)
Micro Machines
Worms
Lemmings
Unreal Tournament
Theme Hospital possibly Theme Park and Zoo Tycoon may run

There's also some cool kiddies games I like:

Operation Neptune, Ancient Empires, Adi and Fun School!!!!!!!!

Quality. You do puzzles and things to get to the next adventure.

I'd love someone to do a Mockery of Operation Neptune its has real potential to be funny.

And duke nukem 3D

I suggest Postal.
Grand theft auto 1 and 2 (free downloads available on Rockstar's site). Worms, Worms 2/Armageddon/World Party.
1st Tomb Raider if you're into that kind of stuff.
Wings, a Finnish Freeware-game (You fly these small airfighters in caves).
Fallout 1 & 2.
Carmageddon.
And of course there are The Emulators.

I'm sure I could think lots of more if I put my mind into it. The 80's and the 90's truly were the golden age of games.

that's just shareware versions

I think you're ALL underestimating the p2 233 he has, as I've got one too (with less ram (192mb)), however with a Voodoo Banshee 16mb.

Operation Flashpoint, Bridge Commander, and many other modern games made during and before 2002 should work.

Oh, it runs okay. Note that OpFlash has native glide3x support too and it was developed since 1996 aiming for a 1998 graphics standard.
