Some sites need it to run (cokemusic, etc), and you always get asked if you want to run it :\

Firefox uses 3k less memory (23k from 26k from what I can see so far), but it's uglier and IE I can use right from folders on my compy if I want. So far I'm not convinced, and the only plus you've given me so far is that it less less functionality. ;<

If you have problems with IE, you're probably one of those fags that clicks YES on everything and opens unknown e-mails with attachments.

Other than instability and other annoyances, I've never had any problems with IE. I don't run any AV software and my computer has never been victim to viruses (post Win98FE). For the majority of users however, this is a huge issue. Regardless, even if you're as computer savvy as AChimp loves to say he is, FF's features alone are reason enough to switch.

on Macs I prefer Mozilla simply because it has better control(right)-click menus than Safari or IE.

at home I use IE cause I'm too lazy to install a new browser when I've never had a problem with IE. it does tend to block shit that I want to download on occasion, and I think maybe its pop-up blocker isn't so hot.

HOWEVER, if IE wasn't prebundled in the OS and I had to install a browser I wouldn't pick IE because it supposedly has (had?) security holes that can be accessed just by navigating to a site without even clicking a damn thing once the page finished loading.

That's the ActiveX bug. There's a flag you can put in your javascript code that can force IE to run it without prompting you.

Firefox is for me. I can't listen to most music played on websites. I always get the damn "Needs applications to run" tab.

I've never had any problems with IE except for popups, but it's really not that big of a deal. I tried Firefox once but it runs slow on my comp. It's also not the only one with tabs cause Netscape has tabs as well, so it's really not that great.

1. i dont use tabs(i have a taskbar and a fairly high res!)

2. I dont click on random active x pops

3. I have xp sp2 installed so it blocks popups and helps prevent active x problems

4. firefox does not support going to ftp site(or did not when I used it) and does not support going to local area network shares like ie(\\computername)

these are why i still use ie. that and im to lazy to get and setup firefox

Ok seeing as some people are still IE lovers let me throw one little interesting comment into this foray.

Web developers have spent the past few years mainly testing in IE6 because there was no other main browser. During this time various standards have been introduced which Microsoft time and time again refuse to partake.

This will explain why if you are navigating certain sites in FF they appear broken or difficult to read. Why? Well thats because the developer did not test the site in FireFox and has written code developed for IE6 which must I add does not interpret CSS2 correctly.

What infuriates me is that IE7 still will not conform to CSS2. What is the point in having a new browser if it still contains the same bugs?!!

I use firefox because I loved the tabs feature in Netscape, I loved the way most things look, I like the fact that I can skin it and add accessibility toolbars. I like the fact that it lets me choose if I want to allow popups or not.

I know firefox isn't perfect, but what I love about it (as well as other Open Source software such as PHP and MySQL) is the whole community aspect, that people love the product and want to encourage its use because it interprets the standards alot better than IE6 as well as the whole principle behind it.

I still use IE6 for certain things: windows update, checking hotmail and testing websites. But FireFox fulfils everything that IE6 does and better. At least try it!

Indeed. The most irritating thing to me about IE in general is that it supports only the core aspects of CSS and not the entire specification. Or that it renders things differently than what they SHOULD be; however, Microsoft just does it their way and then passes it off as the standard because IE is the standard in their eyes. I despise doing CSS workarounds for IE just to get it to look the same along with Mozilla/Firefox.

It is sad that Microsoft will not be supporting CSS2's full functionality also. Oh well. :(

It does seem so stupid that they don't fully support the standards. Its their one chance to unite with the rest of the internet and they choose not to because its not being done their way. I think they are stuck in some time warp. Things are moving fast and people are not afraid of change anymore. We have Firefox instead of IE, we have linux instead of windows. We have PHP instead of ASP and MySQL instead of SQL server.

There are some Microsoft products that I do like. But I've realised over the past year just how flawed IE6 is and it saddens me that they haven't bothered to update it and sort those problems out. I'm waiting to see what IE7 is like. But the problem remains, there are hundreds and thousands of people out there who are stuck with a Microsoft Browser. They don't know about Microsoft Updates so they are spreading viruses etc.

Maybe WC3 takes things further than needs be. But it would just be so much easier to develop a website if I didn't have to spend so much time writing hacks to enable all browsers to see it.
