Of all the many, many, many Katrina related fuck-ups, this has to be the most surreal.

"Firefighters who answered a nationwide call for help were sent to Atlanta for FEMA training sessions on community relations and sexual harassment."

Wasn't it here that there was a post about some rescue workers who ordered some women to lift their shirts before they would rescue them?

This thread is about SEXUAL HARRASMENT TRAINING, so I know better than to ask you to show me your boobies if you're going to talk about life jackets, but this thread is not about LIFE JACKETS!

MAKE A LIFEJACKET THREAD!! this thread is about how and why firefighters got delayed by days in order to recieve community awareness and sexual harrasment training. Now I am in favor of both community awareness and sexual harrasment training, but I think, especially when you are talking about people who deal with things that are burning, you need to have priorities. Make sure the stuff on fire is out, then train about sexual harrasment!

So how about those firefighters getting sexual harrassment training? Maybe they should've gotten training for rescuing flood victims. Yeah, that would've been great. You see, it's ironic, cuz those firefighters are normally fighting fire, and yet now they're fighter water. And also grab-assing.

No, no, no! First of all, firefighters are ALREADY trained in all sorts of rescue operations, and second, there was lots of stuff burning in New Orleans as gas lines broke! Now while I'd assume that under other circumstances, the firefighters might well have benefitted from sensititivy courses, that really shouldn't have had priority over rescue work DURING A DISASTER!

And besides, hello, IRONY! Aren't Republican administrations supposed to favor ACTION and disdain SENSATIVITY?!?

Well there you go. It's like that old addage, "water water everywhere, but it's all full of feces and dead bodies."
