From politics1.com (www.politics1.com):

"According to the Washington Post, Virginia Democratic Party leaders apparently are trying to persuade actor and Dem activist Ben Affleck to run next year against US Senator George Allen (R). Affleck and his wife -- actress Jennifer Garner -- are reportedly already buying a home in Charlottesvillle, Virginia. A Massachusetts native and recently registered NY voter, Affleck campaigned for Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. Affleck's spokesman downplayed the rumors: "He would be a superb candidate for public office in the future. Right now, he's very busy directing his first feature movie." Dems apparently want to keep Allen tied down with a costly campaign in '06, in order to help derail his 2008 White House ambitions. Former Reagan Administration Navy Secretary and author James Webb -- a sharp Iraq War critic -- is also a possible Dem candidate against Allen."

I think this would be a good thing, since it would prevent him from being involved in any movies... at least for a little while.

Ben Affleck should only be allowed to run on the condition that every man in Virgina gets to slap him in the face with their erect penis when they see him.

What if you couldn't get a full erection? You know, stage fright and what not. Could you still slap him with it?

You slap until it BECOMES fully erect. It's only fair.

Women can use big purple dildos in lieu of a penis (unless they have one, in which case they have to pay a fee.)

I've said it before; Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, Nazi, I couldn't care less. Professional actors should not be allowed to run for office.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon should run together, like a buddy senatorship.

i don't have a problem with actors running for office. i mean, modern politcis is all about playing parts and convincing people you mean what you're saying, so why not go with a pro, right?

we should replace ALL our elected officials with actors and celebrities. then the only way to upstage that would be to replace our police force with robot ninjas.

I think Ziggy makes an excellent point (aside from the robot thing, although it's not too bad).

I think everybody and anybody, from all walks of life, income, and geography, should run for office. Todays politicians are so contrived and primped anyway, there's little difference.

Take Sen. Evan Bayh, for example. Some people arw ondering why he voted against Roberts for chief. Sen. Bayh doesn't brush his friggin teeth in the morning b/f running it by his presidential exploratory committee. These candidates are dictated by pollsters, media consultants, and p.r. wonks (many of whom operate under regular conditions in the private sector). The lines betwee nactors and candidates for office are VERY blurred.
