So I've been learnin myself some electrical guitarin for about 7 months now and I am told I already play like Zeus on high. I want to be in a band. A good band mind you. Something the like of Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age.

Problem is most of the college bands round here are full up, are more pretentious than a busty asian girl, have 3 violins a tuba two drummers and 5 guitarists already, or sound like an unholy ammalgamation of nickelback and creed who have needles in their fingers.

How does one go about starting a band or joing one or whatever. If anyone lives near Northern VA (I'm 30 min away from Richmond, 1 hour from D.C) and is interested in starting a band I'd love it.

i was in a few bands back in high school becuase most of my frineds liked to play lots of instrments. It was actully a pain in the ass. It all fun when youre like "cool lets write a badass song." but when you start setting up band practice dates and half the people show up, and you don't feel like writeing music, and you have to leave early to do homework and nothing gets done, it really starts to suck.

it was all just a hassel, and all the poeple i know now who are still into the local music scene are all assholes anyways.

but yeah, if you are taking listens there might be some personal ad things for members, that how a lot of bands that need certain instruments try to recruit.

there was a site called michigan hardcore, which was like a personals add thing for kids who wanted to be in bands, that was ran off of the plusminusrecords site, but its done, and is pretty useless unless you live in michigan and like hardcore. you might want to look for sites like that.

I would say to just ask around, even if you tell people you just want to jam with them, they can at least get a feel of how you play and pass the word on.

My band is easy.

Step 1: Pick a super cool name
step 2: write a super cool song
step 3: advertise your band and make people listen to you, make a myspace page
step 4: never do anything with the band, because it's funnier that way

I play some mean drums but I live in a shitty So Cal apartment complex. Upstairs. So I've had them in storage for more than a year.
I've thought about starting a band, but I have controll issues and I'd end up getting kicked out because it didn't sound good enough for me. Lately I've been toying with eletric gee-tar. So far I can play Iron Man with the big fatty string. Any ideas on how I can learn to be a guitar hero without paying or knowing anyone who knows how to play?

I don't know how big your town is, but you could put up flyers at music stores to try and recruit some people who are into the same music that you are. Other than that, I think the most important thing is to go out to local shows and get to know the people in your local music scene. If there are no local bands that you like, there must be a nearby city or something with some talent. If you're only into big, popular bands like the ones you mentioned and don't give a shit about anybody who is starting out, well why should anybody give a shit about you?

eek that sounded kinda rude but it wasn't meant to be ><

Why do you people take the things I say seriously?

Anyway, I think I'm going to try to use facebook maybe to find people to play with. I'm good but I mess up too much with muting notes by accident and I think a really good band would just get pissed off. I guess for now I'd be better off finding a drummer and another guitarist so we could all fuck around playing megaman songs with ridiculous and unessecary pedal modifications.

Some of my friends started a band and refused to talk to all men (except for me and someone else idk). It did get them lots of fun and attention but it didn't work out cuz they sucked.

I guess finding people willing to play Megaman song's is the way to go if your looking for fun, but don't try to make it a gimmick or anything like that.

What did you name your guitar?
