Super awsome game. Perhaps a bit short but the gore and overall polish of the game make up for it. I would have liked a few more varied levels as it got a bit monotonous towards the end.
The graphics are probably the best i have ever seen, and this is on medium settings with no AA. I dont remember the doom3 engine looking that good :o
Just hope i get a net connection soon so i can play the MP.

I really dont see any reason to get this game. Yeah, so the graphics are great, but to me it seems to be Doom3 all over again. Is there one single original idea in quake4?

Very mediocre game. I was terribly disappointed.

It does look an awful lot like Doom 3. Granted, games on the same engine look alike to some extent, but this is ridiculous.

just by looking at screenshots of it from google i can tell this game is doom3 with a different storyline.

You supposedly get some kind of team to play around with this time. I've had a huge boner for it for a while, i can't wait to play it :O

Heck yes! Later on to defeat the enemy you must become the enemy!

Yes, as ArrowX so articulately pointed out, at one point you are Borg'd, but are rescued halfway (this isn't a spoiler, it was in every magazine preview), so they don't get to turn on the brainwashing chip to complete the procedure. This is a great premise; you never know when they're going to turn it on, warping your mind and making you fight your own men, it adds some great tension, no? No. All you get is a health bonus and I forget what else. The crew members barely even notice the change.
Other than that it feels like a doom ripoff.
See this?

I am running it at 1280x1024 high settings on an ati 800xl and it runs pretty well, and looks quite good/.
the engine seems to perform much better and can doo much more wide open spaces apparently. it also looks better than doom.
i am looking forward to trying the multiplayer, as the one in doom 3 was worthless. As long as there is some decent multiplayer, that is enough to justify the existance of q4 over doom 3

Quake and Doom were ALWAYS similar, you know. Not all of it takes place inside, either.

Similar. These are like carbon copies.
And no, not all of Quake 2 took place indoors.
Also, for those interested, the pic in the middle is from Prey.

Wait, they're still making that? Last I heard (1998), they were waiting until home graphics 'caught up' to their fantastic game. And then I saw screenshots and it looked just like quake :<
Also, wasn't Prey being made by 3DRealms?
Dr. Boogie

Yeah, Prey was originally declared vaporware by 3D Realms. Then, last month, an article about it shows up in PC Gamer. I guess they decided to resurrect the series. And by "resurrect," I mean "make a Doom 3 clone."
Edit: After all, they've got to release something to tide us over until they finish Duke Nukem Forever. :lol

saw a recent video for prey, so far the most remarkable thing are the portal effects (you can see through them seemlessly into the next room)
i wish they released duke nukem forever soon after the 1999 E3 video version (probobly about 3 engines ago or something) which looked quite awesome.

Feh. Serious Sam did that on a much older engine.
And forget about DNF. At this point, it might as well be vaporware.

So did Unreal 1.
Bullshot.
Uh, I doubt it. Doom 3 looks that good if not better on my PC.

yeah but you can see into the next room from different angles and such, not sure if the others did that, but it looks fairly cool in the video

This makes me wonder if their engine is capable of doing anything different. Look at the Unreal engine 3, its being used on at least 3 games I know of that arent even out, and has been capable of doing very different styles of game. So is the doom3 engine capable of making anything look different or are the developers slacking a wee bit?
