Ok, I am pissed off. I'm at the part in RE right after Barry strands you underground with Lisa Trevor. I did the Broken Flamethrower thing and escaped back to the courtyard, and I also got the jewelry box from Lisa's little bedroom. I opened it and got the stone ring, and am now desperately searching for a way to open the other box so I can get into the basement lab. I have searched EVERY DAMN SQUARE INCH of the mansion grounds and found nothing at all that will help me open that damn box, or the room with the spencer family emblem on it. I could go to game FAQs, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's run by fat people.

Here's a long bedroom filled with water. Wade through it, ignoring the snakes,
then pick up the Jewelry Box at the other side. Open it to get the Stone Ring.
Now, head up the ladders until you reach...the cabin? Well, no Lisa this time.
Open the item box and get the Metal Object, then combine it with the Stone
Ring. Head back through the courtyard until you get to the Tool shed. Here,
exit it, then get the Stone and Metal Object you used to open the door to the
tool shed; you won't need to go back there anymore. Head to the Main Hall, then
go DOWN the steps on either side and insert both stone and metal objects.
Uh-oh...is that the sound you heard when you first entered the forest? Anyway,
head in the doors, withdraw the eagle and wolf medals from the item box below,
save, then keep heading down.

Here, you'll find Barry at the altar. Soon, Lisa will barge through. You‘ll
have two options, either give Barry his gun back, or don’t. You better give it
back. Otherwise Barry dies! Your job is to push the four stones in the pit
below. This will expose her mother's face, which Lisa will take and jump off
the side. Now, head through the door Lisa came through, and go up the elevator.
At the fountain, insert the Wolf and Eagle Medals into the indentations,
lowering the water. Go down the steps then in the elevator. Choose to go down."

If the "metal object" that is spoken of in that guide comes out of the other jewelery box, then I suspected as much. But what I was asking before is what do I need to do to open the other box (the one with the round recession below the lid)? I don't remember seeing any spherical object anywhere.
Do I have to shoot the lid of the box open, or leave it in the ceiling trap room? Or do I pry it open with the knife? I just don't know :(

Once you come out of the sewers you will find yourself in a nice
bedroom, this is Lisa's bedroom just for the record, inside here
you will find a jewelry box but thank god there isn't any puzzle
to open it, just examine it and Jill will open it and inside you
will find the stone ring. After taking that head for the far corner
of the room and you will find a ladder heading up somewhere. Take
it up and you will find yourself back in the cabin.

Remember Lisa's cabin, up the hill near the mansion, we'll be back
here.. strange passages, well seeing as you should be close to an
item box, use it and take the metal object we picked from the office
just before exiting the mansion out, and combine it with the stone
key we just picked up . Now head back all the way to the mansion
from the hilltop passageway, along the way some zombies may or may
not have emerged, but whatever the case enter the mansion.

Run around the table and down the stairs into the water. Run through the water
and past the snakes. Then go up the stairs and you'll find yourself right in
the middle of her bedroom.

Take the DAGGER from her bed and then take the JEWELRY BOX from the candlelit
desk. Examine it to get the STONE RING! Yes! You also get A FAMILY PICTURE and
NOTES. Now climb up the ladder and go right. Take the GREEN HERB and BLUE HERB
at the end of the hall, then go to the other end of the hall and climb up the
ladder.

Cottage
=======================

Ha! Now we're back here. Pull the METAL OBJECT out of the item box and combine
it with the STONE RING for the STONE & METAL OBJECT.

Grab the JEWELRY BOX sitting on the shelf, and examine its lid on your
status screen to take out a STONE RING. You also get "A family picture
and notes" file. Grab the DAGGER laying on the bed and climb up the
ladder. At the top head to the left and climb up another ladder to exit
outside.

NOTE: If you got poisoned by the Snakes in the water tunnel, head to the
right to find a dead end, some water barrels, and a BLUE HERB.

CABIN
---------

Aha! I always thought that board looked suspicious ever since we got the
Square Crank! Head down the dusty hall and pull yourself up to the
wooden floor. Check the Item Box at the end and pull out your Metal
Object. Combine the Metal Object with the Stone Ring on your status
screen to get -- brace yourself -- a second STONE & METAL OBJECT. Tadah!

I've never played RE, & now I don't ever plan to. :eek >:

in the old RE you just "check" the item then turn it until the opening is facing the screen then press X I.E. the Eagle ad Wolf Medallions. I havent played the Remake yet.

That's the way it works in the remake too, but I keep checking it and it says "There is a round recession approxamately 4cm in diameter." The problam I'm having is that I can't find whatever fits into said recession, thus opening the jewelery box and presenting me with a crucial item (most likely the "Metal Object" those damn guides keep telling me to take out of the item box, or the spencer family emblem key) that I need to progress in the game. I know how to open the box in lisa's room, which is what Pub thought I was talking about.

To open the jewelry boxin the 1st floor mirror room you have to combine it with the red gem which you get in the study, it gives you the family emblem key which i think opens up Spencers office and that's were you get the metal object. If this doesn't help then I just dont know what the fuck your talking about.
