I seem to remember catching a snip of commentary from Lucy Lawless somewhere recently, where she 'admitted' Xena and Gabrielle were eventually written off as lovers.

I wouldn't know, cause I haven't seen the show since it stopped making sense to me (every episode seemed either set in a different timeframe, or it'd be an attempt at comedy by involving the actors by their own names 'on the set').
