I got a virus and instead of trying to scan with the definitions it had or even prevent it from installing it instead tried to get me to pay again.
I got the trend-micro pc-cillin thing and it seems to work okay(it removed the last virus i had kind of, I still had to do alot of work manually). I know mcaffe used to be the best, but I don't know anymore.

Mcafee is like the worst spyware you ever had. It will slow your computer to shit if it is more than 3 years old.

My friend's comp broke a couple of minutes after installing that. It might not have been that though.

AVG is the best simply because it's FREE and it seems to work better then all the commercial stuff.

Meh.. well I installed McAfee because comcast gave it to me for free. So far things are not blowing up and my computer is no longer hegemonized into being a big black lagging paperweight so...I guess it's ok now. Thanks.

I am currently using zonealarm, which works wonders.

but zonealarm is just a firewall, isn't it? as far as i know it doesn't do a thing for virus detection until a virus is actively trying to use your network. it won't, for example, warn you that a file you are intentionally downloading contains a trojan.

no, it doesn't, but i'm not too worried anyway. All i do is download goodies and the only things zonealarm found in the 7 months i have owned this computer when i scanned it last week was 3 spyware programs, one of which was gamespy arcade.

Not only are they fucking their "customers" (aka - slaves). Not to mention, they overstated their earnings by like 50million dollars last year, and agreed to pay a huge ass fine to the IRS. The fine states that they "are neither guilty or innocent". What the fuck ever, I hope the semantec pigs all drown in their swindled cash.
Provided you know a decent bit about computers, pc-cillin is the way to go.

Ninja, I don't run AV either... just keep shit locked down with decent firewall policies, and go to housecall.trendmicro.com if I'm suspicious of anything.
It blows my mind what sneaks in all the same.
